Topic: My second song

I'm a bit of a novice song writer and this is the second song I've composed in full so I though I'd see what some of the more experienced song writers thought of it. I'm posting the second one because I like it better than the first and I don't have the first memorized. Here goes nothing:
[SONG]
{t:Keep Looking for You}
{st:Warren}

The G lasts for two measures, as does the D in the chorus.

[G]There was something in my [C]heart [Am]
[G]Told me I was in love with [C]you [Am]
[G]But all you ever wanted was to be [C]apart [Am]
[G]Tell me what was I supposed to [C]do [Am]
[G]There was something in my [C]mind [Am]
[G]Told me you were the [C]one [Am]
[G]But all you ever treaded me was un[C]kind [Am]
[G]Tell me you love me then you [C]run [Am]

Chorus:
[D]Maybe I wasn’t supposed to [Am]tell you how I [Em]felt
[D]Sometimes baby you gotta play the [Am]hand that you were [Em]dealt
[D]Gonna keep on lovin’ you no matter [Am]what you [Em]say
[D]Cause no amount of words will [Am]make this go [Em]away

[G]There was something in my [C]skin [Am]
[G]Told me you weren’t comin’ [C]back [Am]
[G]I’m starting to think that I can never [C]win [Am]
[G]That the odds against me are [C]stacked [Am]

[G]There was something in my [C]soul [Am]
[G]Told me I was gonna make it [C]through [Am]
[G]Though in my life you left a [C]hole [Am]
[G]And things seem so empty without [C]you [Am]

Chorus
[G]Now I’m sittin’ here all [C]alone [Am]
[G]Waiting to hear from [C]you [Am]
[G]But you won’t even call me on the [C]phone [Am]
[G]You’ve left me feeling so [C]blue [Am]

[G]I guess I thought it would be [C]easy [Am]
[G]To up and leave you [C]behind [Am]
[G]But I need you woman to [C]appease me [Am]
[G]I guess it’s you I’ll have to [C]find [Am]

[D]So I’m gonna keep on looking for you [Am]until you come [Em]back
[D]Cause baby you’re the only thing [Am]my life [Em]lacks
[D]I guess I still love you even [Am]though you did me [Em]wrong
[D]And baby with you well that’s [Am]where I [Em]belong

[D]From deep in my heart to the [Am]hairs on my [Em]skin
[D]I know I’ll keep looking for you til I [Am]find you [Em]again
[D]Keep on looking for you til I [Am]find you [Em]again
[D]Never stop looking for you til I [Am]find you [Em]again
[/SONG]

Re: My second song

Hello Warren,

Welcome to the Chordie forum. I am not an experienced songwriter but I have just played though your song and then sat and re-read the lyrics and I have to say that it is very much the type of song that I have written, not that I write that many, but very emotional. I hope that this is not written from experience, although from the amount of feeling expressed I suspect it probably is. I think, particuly as this is only the second song you have written, that there is merit and potential in your writing.

Keep them coming.

Re: My second song

Thanks for the reply, glad you liked it. It's not 100% experience I think most songs/poems/fiction are like 80% experience and 20% dramatic license.

Re: My second song

Greetings Warren - "Keep Looking For You" has a great lyric.  Very expressive and very direct - nicely done.  The chords seem to be rather repetitive, but perhaps the melody you've got for it will overcome that.  Glad you're active on the forum and look forward to seeing more of your creations.
