Topic: Yesterday I got my first guitar... Easy songs please

I'm learning chords and tabs pretty quickly but it'll help to get the chord progression and finger moving to get some exercise and used to the guitar. If you guys can't decide on a song, I love playin' anything from alternative & rock to grunge & blues. Thanx

Re: Yesterday I got my first guitar... Easy songs please

Hi there smile

I baught my 1st guitar yesterday too smile

I did do some searching on sweet home alabama on you tube. Theres one there where a guy helps you out in detail smile I love that tune so much its easy and you will get your fingers moving real fast.

I am at the moment still learning chords and getting use to the pins and needles on the tips of my fingers lol.

I havent really looked about this list but I am sure there are tons of easy tunes to play or easy ways to play any song smile for us novices lol

Best of luck with your new guitar smile

Re: Yesterday I got my first guitar... Easy songs please

Hello to both of you and welcome to Chordie,

Sooner than suggesting individual songs to you why not got the Public Songbooks and click on the Absolute Beginners. There you find a host of songs that are relatively easy to play and you can then search for ones that you know and like.

Re: Yesterday I got my first guitar... Easy songs please

How about 'Lady In Black' by Uriah Heep, real easy Am And G. Same two chords back and forth.
just listen to the song to get the rhythm. Also 'Maggies Farm' by Bob Dylan, G, Em, and D, in that
order.

Re: Yesterday I got my first guitar... Easy songs please

Good to see so many folks getting started.  Have a blast everyone!  While you're picking those beginner songs, pick some "stretch" songs too.  Don't start working on them yet, but know that you WANT to do those songs.  As you learn, pull them out from time to time, see what you have to learn to be able to play them.  Work on those skills.  Someday, maybe next week or maybe three years from now, but someday, you'll be playing that "stretch" song and you'll think back to when you didn't know squat.

Congratulations on starting what I hope will be a fun and rewarding trip for all of you.

Re: Yesterday I got my first guitar... Easy songs please

Hi, friends!I have been playing guiter for 9 years and writing songs. Its a nice hobby for me.  I learned the little I know all by myself. Now me and my friends have decided to make a band. But we dont have the sound grip over music which is needed. We do our music in a rather erratic way than doing it methodically. It sounds good though!!Suggestions and practical help are soughted from experts.

boyinthebubl - Erratic can be good.  Listen to live albums of the Allman Brothers or the Grateful Dead or Little Feat.   They didn't get to sound like that from book learning.  Sometimes I wonder if the Allman Brothers were all playing the same song.

Look at the top of this page and find "Public Books" tab.  Click it and you will find a column of choices on the left side.  One of the choices is "Absolute Beginner".   Search through these books until you find a song that you like and is familiar to you (know the melody) and that is easy to play.  There are thousands of them.  Print them out and make your own song book.
Chordie, I think is the best resource on the internet for beginners.  Explore it and learn.

Re: Yesterday I got my first guitar... Easy songs please

Justinguitar is a good suggestion above.  He's got the knack.  Also try Knockin on Heaven's Door G, D, Am, G, D, C...  Wonderwall's a good hit, but might be a challenge on the rhythm.  I just started this one and it goes over with the crowd... Wagon Wheel by OCMS.  It's just (Capo on 2nd fret) G, D, Em, C, G, D C thruout.  Emphasis on strum pattern.   There's two levels of guitar playin'.  Entertaining to yourself, and entertaining to others.  In less than 4 months I expect you'll get to level 1 (LOL).

Keep on playin', you'll get where they're coming from eventually.

Give everything but up.
