Topic: REPHRASE MY TOPIC pop and rockopera's.

Definition of OPERA.
1. a dramatic work in which most or all of the text is sung to orchestral accompaniment
2. the branch of music or drama relating to operas
3. a group that produces or performs operas

WE HAVE MORE: OPERETTE and MUSICAL.

Famous musicals: WEST SIDE STORY, and THE SOUND OF MUSIC.
Also SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER and GREASE.
I DON'T LIKE MUSICALS, it is so absurd like TRAVOLTA singing with OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN: You're the one that I want oohoohoohoo.

BUT WHAT IS a rock opera?
Is "HAIR" a musical or a rock opera?
How many ROCK OPERA'S are there?
1) TOMMY by the Who and in particular PETE TOWNSHEND'S baby. I remember me the commotion when that album came on the market.
2) DEEP PURPLE'S Concerto for Group and Orchestra DOES IT BELONG HERE? I think it does.
I believe the KINKS have one too, but WHERE CAN YOU PLACE THE SO CALLED
"CONCEPT ALBUMS"?  Sergeant Pepper, Pet sounds?
Please help me to make this topic accurate and good.

Re: REPHRASE MY TOPIC pop and rockopera's.

Hi Phil

Tommy is an opera as it is a dramatic work in which all the text is sung to musical accompaniment.

Does Hair have spoken dialogue?  I've never seen it but dialogue would make it a musical by your definition.

Is a concerto purely music?  If there are no words, it cannot be an opera.

Concept albums?  Surely just albums!

cool
