Topic: THE MOST IMPORTANT HOLYDAY, ORIGINOF TURKEY.

Is "THANKSGIVING DAY" the biggest holiday in the USA?
Or "INDEPENDENCE DAY"

Of course CHRISTMAS.
Concerning your family, they all try to be together on Thanksgiving day eating TURKEY'S.

WHY IS THE WORD TURKEY USED because it is written identical as the country.
Eating Turkey in Turkey.

Lieven, you might be interested to know that in Portugal a turkey is known by the name of a different country "PERU"

Yea we have perdue and a newer company called peru... It may be regional...I think they're trying to gain success of the perdue brand though. In my area hog and chicken farms are very abundant and we tend to get some odd brands/distributers that pop up from time to time. Especially in our smaller grocery stores like Piggly Wiggly, Hills, & Food Folks. Man even our grocery stores sound hick...lol You now how it is though...You're from fairly close by smile -Pix

    I wasn't aware of the Peru company, but yes were are kinda close here in NC. I know south of where I am there are lots of turkey and chicken farms. None right in my area excatly, but about 60 miles south of me and even more in SC, and apparantly more east/southeast of me. I'm pretty much about 25 miles from what I've read is the geographical center of North Carolina.

I'm about 10 miles from the SC state line and about 30 miles in from the coast.

Camron, 74 is only about a mile from my house. I'm 45 miles west of Wilmington on 74. Chadbourn is at the junction of 74 & 76. Next time you'll have to swing by for a little jam smile

Doc as far as Thanksgiving we always have a turkey with dressing and giblet gravy for tradition but we mainly indulge in barbeque on the holidays in my family. I usually slow smoke a side of hog over hickory for 12-14hrs every holiday. I've actually had to cook 40 lbs. of it today...It's a little side thing I do for benefits/parties and what not. -Pix

FWIW, Ben Franklin thought the Turkey to be a better symbol for the US than the Eagle:

Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest holiday in America.  It is greeted with the Buying of the Big Screen TV, the Pizza Delivery Dance, and Widespread Drunkenness. 

My favorite holiday is Easter.

IMHO Americans are an odd lot (I'm likely oddest of all).

  Not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving, not everyone celebrates Christmas (even some Christians), but EVERYBODY does something to celebrate Independence Day.
  The birth of The Nation and the freedoms we enjoy, regardless of place of national origin, commands participation.  Even if it is just popping the top on a cold one and burning meat over an open flame.
