Topic: CHINESE GIBSONS

Are these Chinese Gibsons still available? I remember me that 18 months ago you could buy a beautiful CHINESE GIBSON after reading 4 pages about the Chinese culture.
10$ for the guitar
300$  transport
and buzzing all over the place when plugged in. So a lot of guys changed pick-ups by EMG'S another 250$ and if you are lucky no refretting.
TOTAL PRICE = almost 600$ add 99$ and you have a Gibson LP Faded 699$
It is sad that a lot of young people did buy a CHINESE GIBSON, maybe to play CHINA GROVE see DOOBIE BROTHERS.
But now and then you could have a decent guitar.
MY QUESTION WAS: ARE THERE STILL "CHINESE FAKIES" in the running
What is your opinion?

Re: CHINESE GIBSONS

Ebay are trying to crack down on Chinese counterfeits but the real danger is now those that have entered regular guitar channels. The fakes don't really convince as actual Gibsons but unscrupulous sellers try to pass them off ('that's how I got it from the store, not my fault it ain't right'). Worse thing is some sellers may truly believe they have a genuine Gibson. Others may be doing mods to try and make the dodgy guitar more convincing.

PS. It's also Fender, Ibanez, Jackson and many other makes that are counterfeited.

Re: CHINESE GIBSONS

I think that the major companies, especially Gibson, have gone after the counterfeit marketers and dealers. I have no problem with a 200 dollar Chinese built guitar, but don't try to pass it off as an American made Gibson, PRS, Fender or other models at a much higher price...

Middleaged Redneck sorta guy who refuses to grow up...passion for music, especially Southern Rock but like bout everything cept Gangsta/Hip Hop. Collect guitars, mandolins, and love to ride Harleys.

Re: CHINESE GIBSONS

I own a chinese standard so 1 an exact replica  of the stratacaster and there is absolutly no difference is sound quality or ease of play in fact my guitar has an extra coil at the bridge and I go to music stores and play american strats and they sound and play the same as my chop suey model smile

Re: CHINESE GIBSONS

Sounds like you got a food one Russell. There's alot of snobbery in guitars particularly snob attitude related to country of origin. Back in the 70s everyone talked about 'jap crap', now those japanese built copies are highly collectible and MIJ is a hallmark of quality.

What people are doing is trying to insist that 'all American built guitars are quality', 'all Chinese built guitars are rubbish' which is obviously nonsense. China's build skills have been coming on leaps and bounds.

My recommendation is get out to real shops, clap your hands on real guitars and ignore the name, the brand and the country of origin. Counterfeits only work because the fake logo convinces the seller, if the listened and felt the wood fakers would be out of business. Buy off the net, buy deaf and blind

Re: CHINESE GIBSONS

Cytania yea I did get a good one and paid only $165.00 new and the music store put a new set of fender bullets on .09 to .043 and set the intonation and adjusted the action to what I wanted the quality of this guitars sound can be heard on my web site on the second song on my player called "Abednego" I mixed the tones to  sound like a violin (with help from my BR-8 effects patch) and this guitar is as fast as a cheap prom dress comming off on a blind date lol
