Topic: gibson hummingbird vs epiphone hummingbird

It is still very difficult to judge, because they use the same wood. I could only find a difference on the web for the back of both guitars.

I really hope that somebody, maybe a professional guitar player can answer me.

It would really please me.

Not a professional by any means but Gibsons are american made and use maple bracing which has great tonal qualities. I don't know what country (Korea or China) or type of bracing material is used on the Epi's. I've played Gibson J 200'S (at a music store and a friends) I have not played an Epi.

The sound of the Gibson and the feel of the neck was worth the price tag.

I just looked on the epiphone sites, same wood, front, back and neck, but there is a different construction concerning the back. Also, it is so amazing what kind of guitars you can find, brands I never heard about, like TERADA acoustics, I think they don't make them for at least 10 years. Tokai started as "THE" specialist in making almost a twin brother les paul. Imagine that those guitars are now also collector's items?

As I wrote already, too many models. I am born in 1955, and when we walked into the city of Brussels, there was a guitarshop, you had fenders, 1 strat, 1 tele, the tele was even a lot cheaper. You had also Gibson Les Paul standard, custom and sg. It is horrible how the prices are going up for a piece of wood with strings. I have been told that celebrity sellers like GRUHN in Nashville includin other people with an authority concerning guitars, that the prices are almost "artificially" high. AND my opinion, most of the legendary are almost purchased by Japanese people, like a gibson standard 58-60. and it is still a mistery why his more expensive brother, Gibson Les Paul custom, equiped with the same PAF's are "a lot cheaper"!!! in the period 1958-1960.

Most guitarst played standards because they were cheaper than the customs. When their bands finally hit even though they could afford the customs they continued to play the standards. Since most people figure that if they buy the guitar of their "guitar hero" they will sound like him they bought the standards.

quite simply, gibsons are better.  The only epiphones I have ever liked, were made a long time ago, before gibson bought them out.  If it is ever a case of which is better, gibson is better.  The company uses lower quality wood for the epiphones, it might be the same kind, but they get it from the reject stockpile.  But, if you played through a good number of epiphone hummingbirds, you might find one or two that would be as good as a gibson, but probably not.
