Topic: about anti virus programs to keep your PC clean.

Until 2007, I used NORTON the "biggest name" and once my contract ended I changed to MACAFEE and as extra you have a site adviser. Green is very reliable website. Red can be dangerous by bringing junk and spam or a trojan. A ? = site is not fully tested.

- What antivirus do you use to protect your songs on PC?
- Is there an antivirus program better than the classics for this site

Sometimes I am convinced that those people who make an antivirus program, create a new virus, if not they wouldn't have work or selling their problems.
I post this thread because a lot of us posted their songs on "myspace" and I believe that people who don't belong there, like I had at least 5 USA girls, to see that they are removed later, also skype, I am afraid to use it because when I open skype I get a lot of "girls" who are asking to be your friend, and every single girl was "porn related".
That's my problem on myspace.

Re: about anti virus programs to keep your PC clean.

I use Norton, i have found it very effective since i haven't been hit yet, though i know from looking into the antvirus scan activity log, many have tried and failed.

Trouble with Norton is that it is such a huge program it takes up a lot of memory and it slows down your computer, compared with some of the lesser known brands. But slow is probably the lesser evil to getting hit by a nasty virus or worm. So I'll be interested to see what others say on this one.

Many of the computer magazines that I have read recommend the McAfee Antivirus, personally I use Avira which in its basic form is free and I have found to be an excellent tool.

Lieven I read in another post that you are using 2 antivirus programmes. It is my understanding that this is a definite no-no. The two programmes will clash and give you problems, you should stick to one.

Hi gitaardocphil,
I have never understood the mentality of people who create viruses - it is a sick mindset. Since I use a Macintosh, viruses are not as much of a problem but I still have defenses installed.

Regarding MySpace and all the bottom feeders that dwell there - you can eliminate much of that junk by changing your privacy settings.

Here is how: Log in, go to 'My Account' (upper right corner of your home page), and then go to 'Privacy'. You will find several options there that make it much harder for spammers and other lowlife.

When I started my MySpace page I had lots of unwanted junk until I activated the privacy tools. Now that those privacy options are in effect, I have not had any trouble.

Re: about anti virus programs to keep your PC clean.

I've used quite a few in my time. I used to be a Systems Admin so I experimented with most all of them. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I used to say Norton was the best but I think in the last few versions it has become too controlling. For advanced users, we know the risk but should still be allowed to easily "set the antivirus aside" to complete a task. And of course, they're all memory hogs and resource pigs. But in todays internet, they're almost a neccessity. I ran my business laptop without antivirus for a couple of years without incident but browsing was minimal and I scan my email @ the server level.
I'm currently using MacAfee; it's OK at best.
Roger, I too have heard that Avira is good. Maybe I'll try that next. And Doc, Roger is definitely right on in saying that using 2 antivirus programs @ the same time is chaos. If you are using 2 I'm suprised the 1st one let the 2nd one install itself.

I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused.

Hey Doc
I use two free programs one a Antivirus which is A V G by Grisoft
and a  Firewall by Zone Labs.
Both work well and do all what basic Nortons and MacAfee do for free.
Why pay when you don't have to?
I've had both Nortons and MacAfee on Computers and I can say honestly say that free one's have been less trouble to run...

I have used Norton also. I had a lot of problems. Especially on myspace.

I bought a package from AVG, i find this one excellent. All the old problems are gone now
i dont even get spam Emails anymore.
