Topic: Counterfeit - Ibanez?

Browsing around, as you do, hoping Ibanez had another juicy bass to match my super SRX400 and came across this;

http://www.ibanez.com/support/counterfeits.aspx

Can't believe it, Ibanez SDGR basses are so well priced anyway, how could someone make a profit counterfeiting them? Big names like Gibson and Fender I can see the cachet/cash but Ibanez?

The counterfeiters are out of control. Another good reason to check the gear in person before you buy. Whether that meands driving to an eBay seller or visiting a shop.

Re: Counterfeit - Ibanez?

Ibanez are good to counterfeit for a few reasons.
The first of these, is that they are not as well known as what you call "big names" like fender and gibson. However, within certain circles, they are very well known and highly respected.
Another reason is that, whilst not being recognised to greatly, they DO still cost quite a lot of money if you gettop of the range models. So if you see one for half price, you think its a good deal, so are more likely to buy.
This means you can make a LOT of cash counterfeiting Ibanez

It's not how well you play... It's how much effort you put into the playing

Re: Counterfeit - Ibanez?

Hi, i'm new on this site and I love reading the letters in the Forum.  This is only my third message, so don't shout at me. Firstly I would never buy anything I had not examed myself, especily guitars.  However, where I live (Belfast Northern Ireland) there are like only three music shops in the city.  So what I did was  got to know the Guitar Tec, who is also a salesman.  I buy all my stuff in the same shop, that included a Twelve-string, Dreadnought with a built in tuner.  A six string Electro-Acustic Cutaway Dreadnought, pluss the usual odds and sods. This has been over about two years, now they have just had a new batch of Super Dreadnoughts, Tanglewood, Electro-Acustic with the lateist Fishman electricts.
Now you might think because Tanglewoods are made in the U.S.A and with the weak dallor,
agenst the pound  you would think we would get them at almost half-price, Not?
By the time import duties and mucial instruments tax, they cost almost as much if not more.
So where is this going I hear you say, well this is were getting to know the Gutiar Tec and being a loyal comstomer pays off I got the latest modle, A Super Dreadnought, electro-acoustic, which came in at £1350, Knocked down to £8995, the tec is getting me one for £425,
he is also setting it up for me, so i suppose loyalty does pay off. But the point is I know what i'm getting.
Luck to All.
