Topic: Kentucky Derby AKA horse racing intro tab

This is really hard for me to explain this but here goes.   You know that short short melody they play at horse tracks just before they let shoot out of the gates and race?   Also it is sometimes used in 100 meter dashes before the starter says "On your mark. Get set. Go."   The song is really short, like two quick scales, one goes from low to high and the other goes from high to low.

Does anyone know where i can find the tab for it?

Re: Kentucky Derby AKA horse racing intro tab

Hi chachee99 & welcome to chordie!
I think you are referring to a well-known bugle call.
The name of the tune is "First Call" or "Call to the Post".

It is one of many bugle tunes traditionally used as signals in the military.  Long before radios were invented drums, bugles, horns, gongs and other devices were used to send signals on the battlefield and within encampments.

Bugles can make only 5 different tones since they have no valves.
Perhaps the best known bugle call is "Taps" which is played at military funerals.
Unfortunately, bugling is a dying art . . .

I don't know where tabs for this bugle call might be, but here is a Wikipedia article with a sound file along with standard musical notation:

Here another article covering more bugle calls:

Hope this helps, James

Re: Kentucky Derby AKA horse racing intro tab

Thanks for the links James. First Call aka Call of the Post is the name of the tune.  I didn't know that.  Thanks for the info.  I am looking hard to find the tab for it.   However, you did provide me with the music.   However, I am new at guitar and cannot read music very well.  Perhaps I can use it as a project to help me learn how to read music better tongue

I will keep looking for the tab.  If anyone knows where I can get it please let me know.  I think both would awesome little tunes to practice.

Yeah, I understand that the bugle is a dying art.  However, I have a friend who is a DJ and also plays the bugle during his performances.   Although mixing bugle with dance music  may sound strange, it actually sounds pretty cool.  In addition, it makes his gigs  original and unique.

Once again, thanks man!

Re: Kentucky Derby AKA horse racing intro tab

If you knew the song you'd know the intro is played on a keyboard. Horse racing browser with predefined tabs would help you to find the plenty of useful information about horse racing intro tabs.
