Topic: Hsus7 for ukulele??!

hello everybody,

i just started playing ukulele,
and although i have no musical background or training,
i am finding it easy to play.

i came across a song on chordie.com that i liked
(babyface - when your body gets weak)

and within the song
there are a couple of chords that the author did not have a chart for
on the right hand side.

i tried to do a little bit of my own research,
and i THINK i found a couple of answers
but if anybody could help me
that would be great  -

cis - (does that mean C#m ?)
fis - (does that mean F# ?)
gis - (i have no idea ?)
Hsus7 - (WHAT DOES THAT MEAN ?!)

thanks so much!

I think the meaning of these chords are simply someone not knowing the proper names for chords. This should be of great help to you;

Give everything but up.

Re: Hsus7 for ukulele??!

Hello b.the and welcome to Chordie,

I think I can help a little here. In Europe many countries use H instead of B so I reckon it should be Bsus7.

'is' means sharp so the other chords are C# F# and G#

Re: Hsus7 for ukulele??!

I'll second what Roger says regarding the H = B.
It is one of those quaint Continental quirks . . .

However, I'm thinking the lower-case chord names could also indicate minor.
So, cis = C#m, fis = F#m, gis = Gm.

Anybody else have any insight on this?

Re: Hsus7 for ukulele??!

Hey James,

Remember that photo of the East German AutoHarp I sent you. Well the markings on it's body for string tuning shows Cis for C# and Fis for F# which which why I assume that they are major and not minor notes so I would appreciate clarification too.

Re: Hsus7 for ukulele??!

Hi, in principle, could be both.

cis (with lower 'c') would be C#m
Cis (with capital 'c') would be C#

Rest is similar (ref to http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cis-Dur with 'Dur'=major and 'Moll'=minor)

Cheers

Re: Hsus7 for ukulele??!

Hi Fuersti and welcome to Chordie,

I have been hoping for someone to come and clear this matter up and using upper case for major and lower for minor makes perfect sense.

Regretably my German is non existant so I was unable to read the Wikipedia article.

Thank you for the imput,

Roger
