Topic: Blinding!!

Just been listening to a song I want to try and learn to pick up the arrangement etc. A friend of mine actually recommended I give it a try so I thought I would give it a bash. I know the song pretty well but never listened to it with a view to playing it.....if that makes sense?

The song is On the Other Side of the World by KT Tunstall, incidentally tongue

Anyway, the point of this currently pointless thread is that this song has actually taken my breath away tonight. Not sure what's different this time compared to the countless times before I've listened to the song except that maybe now I'm not just listening.....maybe I'm hearing the song now. Anyway, as I said, I think it's a blinding song. Really beautiful.

So, am I destined for the lunatic asylum or has anyone else had moments like these and if so with which songs?? N.B. this isn't the first time I've had this feeling, just the first time I've had and bothered to post anything about it!

Cheers,
BW

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTiLET_dAro Yea, It's a great song!

I've had a few songs that I really related too. I'm not sure if it was as strong a feeling but they hit me none the less. Let's see one would have to be James Taylors "Fire and Rain" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64_303eHaTM And Ben Harpers "Please Me Like You Want To" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Z5Ai3J1ug And I really loved this guys cover of "Mad World" by Gary Jules http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Z5Ai3J1ug Peace! -Pix

Re: Blinding!!

Oh yeah...songs SHOULD hit you like that. It's when they don't you should be concerned.

I used to be disgusted; now I try to be amused.

Re: Blinding!!

I agree Geo....gotta love it when a song gets you like that.

Aaaanyway, I've finally scratched the itch and recorded the song. Took a while to get anywhere near singing it but I'm close enough-ish. The effort is here:

Putting it up got me to thinking that it'd be ace to see some Chordians performing their favourite covers so consider the cyber gauntlet thrown down!! Let's have some links people......faces and voices to names is always a good thing. Don't be shy...we're all friends here smile

Re: Blinding!!

I was recentely asked to learn Dancing Queen, to play at my sister's 40th birthday bash. I have never been a fan of ABBA but, WOW, this song has grabbed me by the short and curlies. Funny how that happens.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: Blinding!!

A couple of songs by The Band do it for me. Tunes like King Harvest, When You Awake, and Rockin Chair. I am slowly
learning each one and having a ball.

Re: Blinding!!

I had a similar experience with 'Tempted' by Squeeze. It's one of those songs that sounds easy enough when listening to it but when I began to disect the tune I realized I was in for a challenge. 28 chords  and countless mistakes later I finally got it. There is a simpler way to 'get by' but I felt it my moral duty to play the song proper and give it it's due respect. I have a few people that request it everytime they see me playing out. I have a great sense of accomplishment whenever(rarely) I play it live without mistakes.
