Topic: Need help with chord progression

So, I think what I have written is a chorus, but I can't seem to find a good verse progression.  Of course, I could use this progression for the whole song, then add a bridge or something.

I think this would be a I - III7 - VIm - IV - I - V - I - V progression in the key of "D".  My problem seems to be that after the V on the end, the I sounds so natural.

Any suggestions???

{c: slow 6/8 time; possibly arpeggiated, maybe just strummed on the 1 and 4 beats, I throw in some bass line runs to aid in some chord changes}

|[D]. . . . . . |[F#7]. . . . . . |[Bm]. . . . . . |[G]. . . . . .
|[D]. . . . . . |[A]. . . . . . |[D]. . . . . . |[A]. . . . . .

Re: Need help with chord progression

Dude, why are the "song" tags not working for me?

the chords are (in slow 6/8 time) D - F#7 - Bm - G - D - A - D - A (all one measure each, then start over)

Re: Need help with chord progression

Some simple rules to help guide you.

-I chord can change to any chord
-II chord can change to any chord except the I chord
-III chord can change to any chord except the I or the VII chords
-IV chord can change to any chord
-V chord can change to any chord except the II chord or the VII chord
-VI chord can change to any chord except the I or the VII chords
-VII chord can change to any chord except the II or IV

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: Need help with chord progression

Hi,

If you are wanting to progress to a chord other than D to start the next line perhaps changing your second line to either D G A D or D A G D will do the trick although this may not be what you had in mind.
