Topic: "Tomorrows So Far Away"

This song is about how doing a bunch of stuff never is as important or meaningful as doing a bunch of stuff with the ones you love.

Tomorrows So Far Away By Jeff Gilpin

April 9th, 2007

Verse 1

[E]I had to go out on a [A]Saturday

I [E]had to be somewhere sometime later that [B7]day

[E]I cannot remember why I [A]had to

[E]It seemed im[B7]portant any[E]way

[E]For some reason I got up [A]early

[E]No reason why guess I couldn’t [B7]sleep

[E]So I started traveling in no [A]hurry

[E]I guess I had some [B7]promises to [E]keep

Chorus

[Asus]Time and all [A]time’s[Dsus] moments are so [D]fleeting

[Asus]Yet we [A]let so [Esus]much get in the [E]way

[Asus]We miss [A]out on what [Dsus]we’d much rather be [D]doing

[A]Put them [E]off for to[D]morrows so far a[A]way

Verse 2

[E]Traveling down the road I played the [A]radio

[E]Got too bored so I put a CD [B7]on

[E]For some reason music didn’t [A]suit me

So [E]I just turned it [B7]off before too [E]long

[E]Just about then traffic [A]slowed down

[E]Slowing further it finally came to a [B7]stop

[E]I suppose up ahead there was a [A]problem

[E]Sure glad that the [B7]day was not too [E]hot

Verse 3

Waiting [E]looking around I saw an an[A]tique store

[E]Selling lots of junk and treasures [B7]hidden

I’ve [E]never been too keen on an[A]tiquing

[E]And that day I [B7]had another [E]bidding

[E]Further up the road was a house of [A]fortune

With a [E]sign saying palms read and fortunes [B7]told

I’ve [E]never had a desire to know my [A]future

[E]I just figured one [B7]day I’d wake up [E]old

Verse 4

[E]Sitting in that traffic I got to [A]thinking

About [E]all the things too many out there to [B7]do

[E]I could make a list I bet never [A]ending

[E]Spend all of my [B7]days and not get [E]through

[E]So I topped offmy to-do list with a [A]new one

To [E]spend more time with my most loved [B7]ones

Because it’s [E]never what you do but who you are [A]with

That [E]makes things im[B7]portant to get [E]done

Chorus

[Asus]As the red [A]tail [Dsus]lights started [D]moving

[Asus]I looked for a [A]place I [Esus]could safely turn a[E]round

To [Asus]go back [A]home and [Dsus]start the day all [D]over

Where [A]everything im[E]portant could be [D]found [A]

Re: "Tomorrows So Far Away"

Thank you Russell - This whole idea is one I try and touch on from time to time in my music just to keep myself from forgetting what's important and so I keep focused; otherwise, I'll start to slide into old habits.

Re: "Tomorrows So Far Away"

Thanks Daddy and Lena.
- The only time I ever went antiquing was with family and it was fun but mostly due to who I was with...the right people can turn what you're doing from ordinary to extraordinary
