Topic: Watery Sound
My High E string is sounding watery, whether I play it open or fretted. It's not hugely noticable, but it gets on my nerves a little, as I hear myself play all the time. Any ideas what might be causing that?

Could be several things;
If you clean your strings with a rag some lint boogers could be clinging to your strings. This will dampen(silence, mute) your sound.
Your strings could be old, worn out, and in need of replacement.
In geopraphic areas that are of high humidity, strings will wear out at a much faster pace than in areas of low humidity.
An finally, if you are a heavy perspirer(sweat) the acid in your body liquids will wear out your strings. Wipe them down as often as you can without becoming obsessive-compulsive about it.................
Give everything but up.

Naa, I clean my strings every day after playing them, and I just replaced them all two weeks ago. I have been sweating more than usual though, seeing as how the temperature spiked from 50 to 80 here in the past three days. I'm determined to get at least a month out of my strings though.

When you changed the strings did you use a different gauge? The change in string tension by using either heavier or lighter strings could affect the set up of your guitar and give you problems.

I have some spare strings, but sometimes my little E snaps, and I used a B-string.
I did this twice, and the sound? not so different.
But "watery"? Never heard this term.
I need to change strings really soon, on some guitars, I get a METALLIC sound, touching or playing on a string.

doc i have never heard the term "watery"myself unless it means thin or not as loud as the other strings if the strings are new the problem could be in the pickup coil or wireing

It's a sort of odd sound...not sure how I can really describe it, other than comparing it to a guitar played underwater. But strangely enough, it went away on its own, as far as I can tell.
