Hi,anybody from UK?...I am very into John Denver type music (dont groan)...fingerstyle dylan/james Taylor etc....47 years olod been trying to learn for 15 years on and off,just getting more into it now.When I get good enough going to put something up on youtube,amazing the people on there...great players and singers some of them...anyhow get back anyone...cheers.
hey n y p i too like denver,taylor and stuff like that. also coal mining tunes from island of cape breton, nova scotia,canada. some are true accounts of coal mining in days past when coal was king.i searched for these tunes with no luck. men of the deeps sing a number of them.look for one of there albums on cassette or c d . keep a pickin . badeye
Hey thanks for your reply...there was a lady on tv once from nova scotia, think I have a video I taped of her.. forget the name but she was singing about coal miners but maybe her own songs...yes people like John Prine,Pete Seeger...all the good acoustic players and singers,great tunes and songs..I am still pickin but fingers not too keen...

Where from on North Yorks'?...I'm from Stockton on Tees, but now living in North West Indiana, having moved here 7 years ago. I started playin about 18 months ago having started late in life ( 39 yrs old) and considering my musical passion of hardcore punk, i find myself strumming along to the the likes of John Denver, Cat Stevens and other easy listening stuff. I found this site to be a revelation and my one ambition is to be able to pick up a guitar and knock out a tune sitting around a campfire with everyone singing along
Hello sxm...I am near Skipton NorthYorkshire,yes not too far from stockton...so out in Indiana,must be much more going on than here!...yes this site seems ok quite usefull I thnk.if your into punk its interesting that you find John Denver of any interest!...I went to JD concerts over here in around 1986....after his concerts was the first time I ever touched a guitar (like many others I guess).I dont find it easy very slow progress!....good luck,maybe let me know how you doing later...Happy New Year!

There are lots of people from the UK use chordie ( I am in scotland) lots from englsnd , scotland and a few irish too, cant think of any welsh though, or not that they have said.
Also a few from europe too, or quite a lot.
You near enough get a reply from anything you ask, especially if posting in the relevant topic area.
I dont listen or play John denver but I would not groan at it. People here are into all sorts of music, every sort you can think of, probably some you might even groan at,lol.
I put some of my stuff on youtube too, some of my own songs I wrote and some covers of pink floyd and syd barrett songs. I have got quite a few more songs written in the last few months, I just need the time to record them properly and get them on youtube.
Also Pere ( the admin of chordie) is setting up a new web site sometime this year I think. It will allow you to put your own songs on the net and hopefully it will give them some sory of copyright too.

Yep another one from Bleighty here. I live in Wigan but travel often to Lincoln. I like fingerstyle playing, although have only been playing guitar for just over 2 years, have sung all my life though.
As for musical tastes, JD is good and anything of that ilk will do fine for me. At the moment I am working on some swing and ballad type stuff ( I am a big softie at heart).
Anyways, good to hear from a Brit and if you are ever in the area on a thursdays let me know, I have a good few venues that will appeal to you for a jam session no doubt.

I can sympathise with that. Try getting local guitar lessons if you don't know any other players. I know it's money but you don't need to have them often and it works great as an incentive to have achieved a goal by a certain date. Also an experienced guitar teacher can set you straight on simple matters of technique. I really struggled with bar chords till my teacher picked up on my finger not being straight enough. This altered my entire hand and elbow position and rapid progress followed...

There is a club in manchester where the members get together and play, play/sing etc for each other. It is a great incentive to really practice when you know people are going to be listening. It is very friendly - meets fortnightly or used to and all ages from teens up are welcome. people are very encouraging and often work on things to play together etc. Jamming session at end. All styles of music get played and it can be a really enjoyable evening. If anyone wants info on it mail me. Oh and by the way - I am another one like NYP so Gifted is my online gaming name not an indication of my musical abilities on guitar hehe. Happy new year all - I joined the site today.

What you describe is what we have loads of in Scotland, but I know they do havce loads All over the place.
They are caommonly known as folk nights, or folk sessions.
Now, just because it is called "folk" it is not always folk songs that get played although the ones I go to it is 87.4% folk music. But ye get country, blues, acoutic rock etc.
They are great for building up confidence and also to get out and have a laugh with like minded people

Thanks for the welcome upyerkilt lol. feels strange just typing that lol. I know what you mean by folk clubs having been to some myself but I have to say this one is not like any the folk clubs I have been to and I can't actually think of any time I have heard folk played at it. However a folk club would probably be as good for the purpose of motivating you to practice nyp.
