Topic: ABOUT MELODY

Can someone help me on this one?
GIBSON MELODY MAKER.
- You have one with ONE P-90 coil.
- You have one with 2 P-90 coils.
I understand that there has to be a difference, but my question includes also WHO HAS EXPERIENCE with a GIBSON MELODY MAKER?
---> is this 1 coil OVER-ESTIMATED or UNDER-ESTIMATED, as far as I could listen to the sound, it is "WOW" such an in fact simple guitar with a fantastic sound. Which brings me to the other one with 2 single coils = is this like a GIBSON LES PÄUL with 2 P-90's? OR is it sounding that different.

It is a little bit confusing, if you start counting the so called LOW-BUDGET GIBSONS like
- MELODY MAKER: they are really cheap and giving a nice sound. In fact a comparison with Gibson
- JUNIOR should be better, but isn't that one discontinued?
A nice link is this one http://www.gearwire.com/media/melodymaker-001.wmv

Re: ABOUT MELODY

I don't have any experience with a Melody Maker, but I know that Gibson still makes the Junior-they have several LP Juniors, one is a Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day) signature.  They also have an SG Junior.

Re: ABOUT MELODY

I'm not a fan of the Juniors, or the Melody Makers. Trim is big for me, I like a nice looking, nicely finished guitar.

But for $300 or so, the LP Junior is awfully attractive as a beater...

Re: ABOUT MELODY

Tried one in a guitar shop, first thing I found as it goes out of tune real quick, second thing I found was the single P90 sounds nasty, and that's it no other voice and tone does little to civilize it...

Re: ABOUT MELODY

Some people may like that minimalist look, but I personally think they are pretty ugly guitars.  One single coil? I like versatility-my Danelectro has 3 lipstick single coils with 7-way switching.  I would probably never buy a Junior or a Melody Maker-why not spend another 100 or 200 for a Faded SG? Actually, the Junior is more expensive thatn an LP or SG standard.  Unless you're a Green Day freak, I don't see why you'd want one.

Re: ABOUT MELODY

I agree, I always liked the SG better.  Used to like the raw look of the Melody Maker, but hated the sound and playability.  Junior's ok, but SG plays better.

That's alright, I got my guitar

Re: ABOUT MELODY

06sc500, I don't know about minimalistic and about taste and shape, it would be a disaster if we all had the same taste, imagine, every man in love with the same woman. From MEDICAL or SCIENTIFIC view, cloning people can be interesting. WORSE, they can produce a billion little docphil's. Strange isn't it BUT TRUE.
About those GIBSONS:
- The more I looked, the more difficult it was. Take a melodymaker, and go to youtube, amazing sound. You find juniors, but they are not that cheap in fact 1600$, in € of course = 1000$
But what is the main difference between the night hawk and a junior?
