Topic: Gibson les paul supreme

I have since 1,5 years a gibson supreme.
My question is:
- what is the "position" of this, beautiful guitar, compared to
GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD & GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM
- Is this guitar really one of the best as they claim on the gibson website?
What I know is that there is a difference in humbuckers.
How would, GIBSON LOVERS AND PLAYERS describe this SUPREME, or ranking.

Re: Gibson les paul supreme

I think that the difference is mostly cosmetic. The website mentions flame maple on the back as well as the front plus the pearl inlays and binding. I love the Les Pauls but it seems that one gets something that's too pretty to play. My favorite is the Les Paul Classic...the pickups are a bit hot but I can usually get the sound I want.

Re: Gibson les paul supreme

Well jay, that's my point. I had a young man, 1 year ago, who wanted my Gibson LP Standard so bad. He paid me 1500€ = 2200$, while I paid 1 year before 1000€ = 1500$, nice to win 700$.
Even having so many guitars, it was painful to make that decision.

Re: Gibson les paul supreme

That's why I've got too many guitars...seems that I just can't let them go. I guess if someone offered enough I would sell them. I really like my LP Classic...with the amp up and guitar volume about half I can get those really sweet and clean LP sounds...crank up the volume knob a bit and it develops some attitude really quick.

Re: Gibson les paul supreme

jay, it looks as we have a similar problem. I have 23 guitars. If somebody asks me to keep 3 of them:
- PRS CUSTOM 24
- PRS EG S-S-S (s= single coil)
- MARTIN HD 28 (or my D-45V)
I have a Fender 1964 original USA = fortune.
Gibson Les Paul Custom 1968 (first year, after they stopped the production) = a lot of $$$
A GIBSON SJ-200 Montana Gold custom shop, a DOVE, and Hummingbird.
I am 52 years old, disabled caused by a car crash, I can't walk without crutches. I have 1 daughter, no music, and sometimes I consider to sell my strat, having that money, you can buy very easy, the most expensive Fender, PRS and GIBSON in a guitar store, and still put 5000$ on my account.

Re: Gibson les paul supreme

I guess if the house was burning and I could grab only one guitar it would probably be my Telecaster...it's an American Telly with Bigby Tremelo and Van Zandt pickups...sort of evolved and been customized over the years. The one I actually play the most is the Peavey Wolfgang Special...I have a couple of Les Pauls...couple of Strats...Epiphone...and some others...too many but I love em all!

Re: Gibson les paul supreme

Jay, if I was banned to an islnd and I am allowed to take 2 guitars:
- Electric = my PRS custom 24
- Acoustic = probably my Gibson Montana Gold, and try to "smuggle" my Martin D-45V

Isn't the Supreme the one with the hollowed out body making it lighter than the "normal" Les Paul ?
I know my Custom weighs a ton compared to, say, a Strat

Re: Gibson les paul supreme

ABOUT THE GIBSON SUPREME.
- He is lighter and very expensive if you want a nice AAAA top
- THERE IS A DIFFERENCE in PICK-UPS 490R ALNICO II neck and a 498T ALNICO V bridge
THE LP STANDARD has BURSTBUCKERS ALNICO V and are closer to PAF'S
THE LP CLASSIC has 496R and 500T pick-ups
THE LP CUSTOM has also 490R & 498T
