Topic: Gibson hummingbird guitar tops
Yes, sometimes, buying on ebay, it can be risky.
- I purchased an old Gibson Humming bird serial number 614912, knowing that there were problems, so I paid 600$. It was worse than I thought, and to be honest, this occurred in my "GUITAR-ADDICTION" period. The reason why I purchased A LOT of guitars(about 8) was caused by my medical condition. I always worked like a dog, 75-80 hours a week, car crash in 09/2000, I Should be dead, knowing the statistics: when you hit a tree driving 60 miles/hour, caused by aquaplaning, 95% is dead at the spot, and the other 5%, 95% dies a few hours later.
This was my way to react, after loosing everything: job, self-esteem, self-respect, a felt like a microbe, always under attack.
About that GIBSON, the top was in a terrible shape. A professional luthier: waiting list 2 years.
A friend of me, is obsessed by guitars. He could be a great luthier, or more correct: repairing guitars.
So he placed a very light wooden construction in my guitar resulting in a kind of "lifting device" pushing up my guitartop and even providing a great sound.
I bought another Hummingbird, YES IT SOUNDS CRAZY AND IT IS CRAZY but it was my way to REACT.
HOW IS A LUTHIER, OR A REPAIRMAN WORKING:
- Is it possible to measure the vibrations of your guitar top?
- Is there an instrument to visualise sound waves?
- What is your opinion about that super light wooden construction?
THANKS A LOT
- MY GUITAR PLAYS EVERY STYLE = BLUES, ROCK, METAL, so I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY IT.
