are you kidding how can you even say that Led Zeppelin isn't the best ever...They have the best guitarist ever in Page, arguly the best vocals in Plant, the best drums in Bohnom and then the bassist, John Paul Jones is second only too Flea of Peppers....sorry zeppelin is best hands down

after 4 pages here I forgot what my original bands were. After seeing the person called "THE JAM" that reminded me of the jam. I still listen and play their stuff and cover their stuff today.

Forget about paul weller being the main songwriter in them, the band as a wholoe ( the 3 of them) were magnificent. only lasted 6 years before paul decided to call it a day and go on to make music with his new pals " the style council" which were not a patch on the jam.

5 or 6 albums, everyone a classic even though tye all hated " the modern world" album because it was rushed and came out 6 months after their debut " in the city" but thankfully less than a year they had written their ressurection album " all mod cons" a truely classic album. Then setting sons, an album that is not dated in any way, especially with the iraq war that is going on, all songs are still apt for todays society inbritain at least.

The Jam will always be high on my list of the greatest bands ever. The energy those three guys gave in a concert was unbelievable the music they made from just drum guitar and bass cannot be beaten today by a three piece band unless extra session musicians are brought in. Sadly Paul weller decided this was the way to go for the jam near the end and took onboard session musicians, but the music was still top form stuff.

I am dating myself when I add these bands: lynyrd skynynrd, molly hatchet, the outlaws, the allman brothers. Double or triple guitar players playing alternate leads, harmonizing, sustain, and over all attack! Not to mention a genre of guitar players that knew their instruments.(micheal schenker, eddie van halen, warren di martini, randy rhoads, Mr.eric clapton, robert cray, Mr.steve ray vaughn) to many influences to name. Some food for thought!

I agree, the Beatles were probably the most talented band ever. Their music grew and changed along with the band members. Plus, one has to remember the terrible pressure they lived under each day. Everything that happened to them was on a scale never seen before.

No one mentioned bands like Suede (The Tears), Foo Fighters or System of a down.... My God, I don't know better singer than Serj Tankien. Even though Brett Anderson has very special voice, so interesting. And Dave Grohl is just Dave, funny and totally great <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy"> I know this is about bands, not singers, but where would be Nirvana without Kurt, huh? <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_wink.gif" border=0 alt="Wink">

I have been  telling everyone about slf for ages now.

Not just their first two albumc but all of them.especially their latest, guitar and drum.

They are also making a new one this year.

Been going since 1977 and very underestimated in my books!!!

this year for their tour they are playing the entire first album "Inflamable material" since it was 30 years ago they brought it out. they have played glasgow barrowlands that much same time every year they have been told they have got 17th march every year until they call it a day.

hey sup. ever heard of bands from the east coast of canada. great bands like the battery or sam moon and the universal power or my fav the matt minglewood band great rock and blues great showmanship. minglewood has about 10 albums out since 1971. i used to follow them when they played gigs all over cape breton island . ahh those were the days.i like some old blues players like b.b.king,sam hopkins,buddy guy,sonny terry and brownie maghee,roy buchannan,mostly blues music, of course the old fav is led zepplin,and of course the band with levon helm and robbie robertson some of there music to me is the best ever.  this is a great forum. it taught me to play guitar and getting better all the time. thank you chordie.and rock on      badeye
