Topic: help please

i am finally learning the guitar. pretty much on my own with some help from some instructional dvd's.  sick of these songs.  so i came here.  mainly want to play some waylon jennings and other outlaw country songs.  i have been on this site for about a total of an hour.  have found loads of songs that i want to play.  i can't read music at all. and i'm loving that i found all these songs and the tabs where you change chords but where does it tell you what the strumming pattern is for that song?  i don't write my own songs and have no desire to. i just want to be able to play these songs.  for now.  so can anyone tell me where to find the correct strum patterns for them.  for all i know it may be right there with the chords.  but like i said i've been here for a whopping hour and am lost. lol.  thanks and sorry for the dumb question but please help.

this is a question that is getting asked more and more recently about strumming patterns and I still cant see the big attraction to them.

Sorry, but I dont know these songs but maybe if you listen to the song and play along withit, you should get the strumming pattern within minutes.

Thats what I do if I need to know the strumming pattern, or do it your own style.

unfortunately, strumming patterns are in your head and heart. You must first know the song (or a close resemblance), then you must practice practice practice. Trust me, some people will cover their ears, others will say what a great job. but practice is what you need, and be very familiar with the song you are playing <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_cool.gif" border=0 alt="Cool">

Hey beginner,

been there done that, not to long ago,

I started playing about 1 year ago and had so many problems trying to learn strumming patters.

It seamed I was getting the chords ok but not the strumming.

This is what I did and it really helped me alot,

I downloaded the songs I wanted to learn and burned them

on a cd. then I printed the same songs from this great site and away ,I was off the the races.

practise,practise practise and don't get frustrated

remember why you picked up the guitar in the first place.

As already said, if you don't know the music you are trying to play and don't read music then you will have to find the song and listen to it. This will give you the strumming pattern if thats what you want. However, playing the guitar is a very personal thing and your personality can shine through your chosen music if you step away from the norm a little. Speed things up, slow them down, blues it up a little simply by changing key (which is easy to do and can tell you if you want?)etc. Above all practise, enjoy. Adios
