Topic: New to sight

Hello all.  I just find this site while browsing the web looking for some new songs to learn. After reading through the several pages of the songs written on here I was amazed at the quality of the music and lyrics. I am basically a beginner at guitar playing and have attempted to write a few songs so I thought I would share them with you all and see what you thought.

Welcome to the forum first of all James big_smile
Now: this is a good song, love the idea. I think to make the rythym match up you might have to trim down a word or two, but then maybe the tune you're playing fits just right. I get the feeling that maybe you're writing about your father? Remember that its never your fault that a parent (or whoever it may be) doesn't approve of your, they're the ones who wouldn't step up to the plate and do thier job as parent (or friend, etc.). Just keep playing and writing because you enjoy it, I think you have alot of potential- this from a kid who had a deadbeat parent herself.
Anyway I'm gonna shut up now, really like the gist of this song. There's lots of available help here, so if you need something just holler smile,

very  very good song. A great Irish dyslexic song writer died 2 weeks ago. " Christy Hennessy"
He always held a pen in his hand? as he maintained there was a connection between it and the brain!
I have been to his shows. So shy so bashful, so so genuine, i absolutely loved him. The very essence of a Gentleman.

He wrote a song called "Star" also about how he was treated as a singer/ musician.  Never taken seriously or didnt look the part!  Some of the words from this song are.


I have known my highs and lows
i worked on every show
played in every town
brought some houses down.
critics never noticed me
im not a star you see
yet i give my heart to every part.

thanks a lot for the replies.  I was hoping that this song was decent.  This one was my 1st attempt at a "real" song. The other song's i've put together are all comedy songs. Reading these replies for this one is just encouragement to keep plugging away.

Now as you are the most recently added friend to FoC how about getting behind a microphone and letting us hear just how your song should sound. There is always a place for a new song there.

If I had the equipment (or better yet the money to buy the equipment) I would do it in a second.  I gotta get some things paid off first and I will be getting the necessary equipment to do just that.  Any suggestions on what to get would be greatly appreciated.
