Topic: how to keep your (expensive guitars") clean.

MAINTENANCE YOUR GUITAR
- Acoustic
- Electric

When you enter a guitar store, you will find in a corner a stash of plastic bottles, and cleaning towels. I bought one, just before I needed to go to my luthier, who told me that this is lost money.
I don't remember the product.
I am also quit lazy to do this and living alone, I become more dependant, also I can't do it  to avoid pain. You can call it ridiculous but my constant pain gets worse, just because of the position. Sitting walking even laying down.
What is the best way for guitar maintenance?
To remove
- DUST
- GREASE
- Stains
- HEADSTOCK, to this correct, you almost have to change your strings.

Re: how to keep your (expensive guitars") clean.

There are allsorts of products for guitars, a common one for acoustics and fingerboards is lemon oil but I don't think this is any good on solid body electrics. I got a Fender polish which is simply 'petroleum distillates', this simply seems to clean off my finger muck and put a thin sheen on. Noticed the difference though, bass kept slipping away from me...

For strings and fingerboard 'Fast Fret' is a good combined cleaner, the mineral oils in it shift string muck yet soak into rosewood nice.

Everyone has their preferred products, your luthier probably has his.

i use lemon oil on everything !!!!! my case' my acoustic' and electric and plastic (ovation) it is good for the fretboard keeps the wood fron drying lets my fingers slide better and it is cheap compared to all the special products about $2.00 a quart here in michigan  even on my amps to keep them looking new
i keep a small rag in the case with a little lemon oil on to clean when i put them up after use but i do a monthly clean  with qtips and a tooth brush.  always keep them in a case when not playing (keeps dust off and unwanted finger prints) and if you need a humidifyer put one in (cheap investment for your equiptment) i have seen guys drive over expensive guitars want it to last take care of it that is the bottom line

Phil,

GHS guitar gloss non petroleum based polish does not fog or leave a film and lizzard spit a citrus oil based liquid for oiling your fret board.

Bootlegger.
