Topic: I need a few good acoustic songs to do covers for

Basically, im looking for some good acoustic songs that have vocal parts, and dont need a backing band.

Im looking for some good ones because i need a few to add to a set list. I may even record versions. Fingerpicking songs would be great, im working on my fingerpicking, and dont mention either Dust In The Wind or Blackbird (i already know them)

Any song would be appreciated. I may already know a few songs that you mention though, so dont post really easy, well known songs.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check out a few of the published songlists on chordie. They might give you a few ideas.


Now I don't know what to suggest cos it might be too easy and I'll embarrass myself............

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

but a few i do that are vocally great songs to sing while playing an acoustic are

Hello.


I'm new to this forum but I came on to post something almost identical. 


Dear Prudence by The Beatles is nice to play acoustic stylee.


What I'm looking to do is play songs acoustically that you wouldn't have heard that way before.


Myself and a vocalist are doing stuff like Brown Sugar by the Stones and Cash Machine by Hard Fi.  Makes it more intersting to play and listen to if you do this with 'electric' songs, so what I want is some good suggestions of songs we could change and do like that.

hello jhopping - take a look at these songs - you don't normally hear them done acoustically, but they are great tunes. Since you have a vocalist along with you, you could really have some fun on these oldies but goodies:


Piece of My Heart, Janis Joplin

Without You, Harry Nillson

Call Me, Blondie

Oops, I Did It Again, Britney Spears

Take My Breath Away, Berlin

Don't You (Forget About Me), Simple Minds


I realize that some of these songs are very schmaltzy as heard in their over-produced form on the radio - BUT, they are actually good tunes.  There are some cleaned-up versions of the songs in Chordie Songbooks that I have posted ("Strut Your Pipes", "Ballads From Blondes", and "Silly To Sublime").


Hope you find some suitable stuff . . .

Deffo have a go at the Simple Minds one.


I'm trying to convince him to do Hit Me Baby One More time by Britney Spiers which actually works well acoustically.  I think it was Coldplay or someone did a versio on the radio a while back.  As you say there are a lot of good tunes which get dismiised due to the style of music.

It was travis that done an acoustic version of that britney song, and yep they done it very good indeed.

Check this link for Richard Thompson's raw & rousing acoustic version of 'Oops! I Did It Again".  Once you strip away all the smarmy, insipid pop junk it is a song with a very interesting chord structure and a great lyric.

brown eyed girl is pretty easy and fun to play cause everyone knows the chorus and sings along

"Tupelo Honey" also works with the letters of the alphabet for the lyric . . . makes for a rather unexpected 'extra' verse.  Try it . . .
