I have several in my songbook have a look-e-see and enjoy some of them. I like the harmonic minor and the egyptian is pretty cool too.

Re: Favorite solo scales

The scale you use should depend on the chords you are playing over, and the key you are playing in.

Someday we'll win this thing...

I've never heard of Egyptian. Could you give me some more information about it please?

A similar mode is used in the Offsprings' song "Keep 'em Seperated".

I was playing that a couple of days ago! I didn't even know it was a proper scale, I was just improvising a solo!
Thanks SouthPaw, I'll have to print that one off.

Re: Favorite solo scales

My pleasure Tibernius. Look through my songbook, "Wicked Cool Guitar". I have lots of really helpful scale information in there.

Give everything but up.

Re: Favorite solo scales

Zappa had some cool runs that I use sometimes, particularly  whole tone and any Lydian or myxolydian modes.
usually over a pedal or two chord vamp.

Re: Favorite solo scales

Here's some stuff I've been working on for the past year and a half. Very helpful and challenging. Take yout time with it. Play it very slow at first and gradually increase your speed as you become more comfortable and confident with the material.
