Topic: I Never Let You

Some parents are blessed with kids who excel at all they do. These kids grow up and become the future leaders of tomorrow shaping the future of our world for generations to come. I truly believe those kids were brought to earth as part of some sort of alien invasion where the real babies were replaced at birth with these alien mutated genetic clones. The rest of us, the other 99.999 precent of the world, have big grand schemes of how our kids will go down some similar path but somewhere along the way something may, and usually does, derail the path to greatness and it is the parent’s job to keep these type of derailments from happening. Parents usually find out, when their kids are much older of course, that their great protective plans had long been circumvented. This song is about that protection and that protection of this kind is more often than not useless. Before I go into the song I have to confess first that while the things I mention in the song are what parents should protect their kids against t osome degree I was not so successful. First of all I’m a bigger slob than both of my kids put together and I also play my music much louder than either one of them although it is by necessity because my hearing is not the best these days. I have no excuse about being a slob though. Anyway, I hope you all like the song and sorry I'm so long winded.

Intro

[Am] [E]

Verse 1

[Am]I never let you

Stay out late at night

[Am]I never let you

Get in any fights

[F7]I never let you

Get any tattoos

[Am]I never let you

Should have known what you would do

‘Cause on the [E]day that you walked out of the [F7]house

You did it on your [Am]own

Verse 2

[Am]I never let you

Hang out with that crowd

[Am]I never let you

Play your music screaming loud

[F7]I never let you

Get a bellybutton ring

[Am]All those years denying

Didn’t mean a thing

‘Cause on the [E]day that you walked out of the [F7]house

You did it on your [Am]own

Chorus

[E]You make big [F7]plans for your [Am]children

[G]And one day your plans come crumbling [D]down

[E]You hope for the [F7]best but you best be [Am]ready

‘Cause the [Bb]harsh reality’s coming back to town

Verse 3

[Am]I never let you

Drink alcohol

[Am]I never let you go

Hang out at the mall

[F7]I never let you

Wear no skimpy clothes

[Am]Should have seen it then

Why I didn’t heaven knows

‘Cause on the [E]day that you walked out of the [F7]house

You did it on your [Am]own

Verse 4

[Am]I never let you

Smoke or let you chew

[Am]I never let you

Stay up way past two

[F7]I never let you

Drag race in your car

I [Am]guess I won those battles

But couldn’t win the war

‘Cause on the [E]day that you walked out of the [F7]house

You did it on your [Am]own

Chorus

[E]You make big [F7]plans for your [Am]children

[G]And one day your plans come crumbling [D]down

[E]You hope for the [F7]best but you best be [Am]ready

‘Cause the [Bb]harsh reality’s coming back to town

Verse 5

[Am]I never let you

Go on double dates

[Am]I never let you

Miss school sleeping late

[F7]I never let you

Go out on school nights

[Am]I wanted you to hit the books

You were pretty bright

But on the [E]day that you walked out of the [F7]house

You did it on your [Am]own

Verse 6

[Am]I never let you

Get a part time job

[Am]I never let you

Keep your room like a slob

[F7]I never let you

Go out with older kids

[Am]I guess I wasn’t tough enough

I found out that you did

Like on the [E]day that you walked out of the [F7]house

And did it on your [Am]own

Chorus

[E]You make big [F7]plans for your [Am]children

[G]And one day your plans come crumbling [D]down

[E]You hope for the [F7]best but you best be [Am]ready

‘Cause the [Bb]harsh reality’s coming back to town

Ending Chorus

[E]We all want our [F7]kids to have it [Am]better

But [G]brother do they set their own [D]terms

[E]There are no [F7]secrets there are no [Am]short cuts

They’ll have to [Bb]learn their lessons on their own
