Topic: two from the JAM

well, at least two members of the jam have the sense to reform.

They dont need paul weller, although would be good if he done at least one tour with Rick and Bruce.

Paul wleer if I remember rightly having seen him a few times is not that energetic on stage but bruce and rick are and in my eyes energetic on a stage sends the fans into a frenzy which = an excellent gig with great atmosphere.

I sent Bruce an e mail today complaining they were not playing in glasgow in May but he tells me they will be touring in the Autumn and they will play Glasgow. YIPEEEE, I say!!! I would have went to edinburgh to see them but it is a monday night and work stops me from that

But more good news is these two friends of over 30 years are writing new material and bringing out a new album.

So, they cannot call themselves the jam as Mr Weller might not take to kind to that since he was the main song writer, but the name " Two from the JAm" is good enough.

If any of you dont know who the Jam were then ye should get yerselves out and get a few cd's of them. All mod cons, setting sons, the gift, dig the new breed, in the city, modern world, snap!

this is the band that got paul weller going until he got too much of a dictator and decided to form a new band " the stlye council" just never had the same effect on me as the jam did, no wonder they never really made it as big as the jam, then he went solo and done very well and wrote some very fine tunes, but still, in my opinion, no tune he has wrote post jam has beaten the likes of " down the tube station at midnight" eton rifles" " going underground" little boy soldiers" " to be someone" " this is a modern world" " town called malice" " the bitterest pill" dreams of children, funeral pyre, smithers jones, david watts ( although a kinks song they done a superb cover) art school, the planners dream went wrong, and I could go on and on and on and on with their songs.

Do yourself a favour, if they play somewhere near you, get yer butt down to see them you will not be disapointed. With Rick being out of the scene for a while he will be bursting with energy and Bruce as I have seen him for the past 15 years playing with stiff little fingers, he still has that precence on stage that will make goosebumps pop upat the back of your neck,

ok, I tihnk I have bummed them up enough now, sorry, I am just so excited that I will hear all those jam songs getting played live again.

Oh yeah, and the guy that is taking paul wellers place is actually pretty good too, good voice for the songs and damn good on the guitar.

Re: two from the JAM

Yes indeedy The Jam were a superb band and I was also rather peeved they were not playing Glesga......however now i know they will be and I'm rather excited about that. Would much prefer the 'Modfather' Mr Weller to be playing with 'em, but hey two out of three aint bad...according to some fat bloke that sings anyway!

Ken, I dunno how ye can say Weller isn't energetic on Stage. I've seen him a few times and the guy was bloody electric! Although, seemingly when he played the Carling Academy he wasn't really into the acoustics of the place and the show suffered...or was that at the SECC? Apart from that, terific post.

Weller is one of the greatest songwriters this country has ever produced and a decent chunk of his work was done The Jam. He is right up there with Lennon/Mcartney, Jagger/Richards, Davies and Townshend.

These gigs could well be the hottest ticket on the circuit this year......apart from SLF at the Barras obviously!

Re: two from the JAM

yeah, he is one of the all time greatest songwriters and with the videos I have of the Jam live, he was energetic, but not the three times I have seen him.

He just seemed to be in a bad mood, played the songs and left. No jumping about like the jam days, no talking wit hthe fans apart from " thanks a lot"

( ok, exagerating a bit, he did talk a bit more than that, but nothing memorable)

But even though I say this about him, I still think he is fantastic.

I just dont think he is actually needed for a Jam reunion, although it would be absolutely fantastic if he did, but think of the ticket prices if he were to tour with them. I could go to see "two from the Jam" twice with the money for a ticket if Paul wller was to tour with them.

sit down paul, put your feet up and relax.

You'll love the gigs, I've seen them twice so far this year, at Cambridge & Whitehaven, and am going again to Sheffield in a few weeks

have a look on youtube for some of the clips, or here's the link to the Cambridge gig that I was at

Re: two from the JAM

Well, strange, I never liked Paul Weller, or maybe the cause is that they were less popular in Europe.

Re: two from the JAM

thanks Jim

I have got loads saved on my favourites in youtube now.

And Lieven,
I would have thought they were massive in europe too? oh well they were massive in the UK.
I got an email from the fan club yesterday saying they are doing a tour in america too so they must be still in demand over there too.
Only a few weeks away now and still looking forward to it so much.

Re: two from the JAM

In a way yes, but I thought it was "Style Council", and I know one song "a town called Malice", can it? Also JAM >>> WHAM! They have nothing in common, I just don't know what happened to Ridgeley? And the rumours of a reunion, TRUE or FALSE.

Re: two from the JAM

thankfully a reunion of wham is false and I like it to remain that way. It is bad enough that the spice girls have decided to cash in on more youngsters.
George Michael did want Andrew to join him on stage this year sometime but Andrew rejected ( hoooooray!!!!)
Also, Wham had a backing singer/dancer called D.C Lee who later joined the Style council and married Paul weller.

I have a couple of style council albums but they are nowhere near as good as the JAm, although a couple of the style council songs were actually recorded by the Jam first, but they spilt and Paul decided to use the songs with his new band.

Re: two from the JAM

Glad too. How progressive I am, I have nothing against marriage between members of same sex, but it sounds weird

Re: two from the JAM

lol

D.C Lee is a woman, so it was not same sex marriage.

unless you are calling Paul a woman lol
