You can play power chords with one finger playing just the root note. It's something to do with harmonics produced by distortion.
You can add the 5th note of the triad to the power chord but adding the 3rd wrecks it.
Right on about worship songs. Very hard progressions until I found this handy tool called a capo.
Some purists say that it ain't right to use one, but when you watch the video's of the aritists on TBN, playing their own worship songs, they are all using them.
If they write em with a capo, why can't I use one to play their song?
I have become a whiz at change key's and using a capo.
Won't play it up beyond the 5th fret or so, but works great.
I'll use a capo. Fine with me. It now occurs to me that all my worship songs are chords for playing bass. The guitar players did use capos a lot, so they probably had some pretty easy open chords to play while I was trying to remember where C# is mid-way up the neck. Ah well, it was a fun challenge and they were good folks to play with.
As far as the low slung thing, no clue. I've seen bassists have their basses almost to their knees. It looks silly at best - definite poser mode as far as I'm concerned. Look at me, I can play it real low, ain't I cool. Just play good, buddy and don't worry about how it looks. While you're at it, get rid of the leather pants. That's just so LoverBoy.

As far as a capo is concerned, I think that anybody who doesn't use one is missing out.
Try playing Coldplay's "Fix You" then play it again with a capo on the 3rd fret. (Verse - C Em Am7 G, Chorus - F Em G)
I play some Lindisfarne and Bob Dylan songs with a capo on the 7th Fret. It gives a sort of mandolin feel.
Ignore the so called purists. If the world followed their advise nothing would progress.
Play it the way you find easiest and if it sounds good then you've cracked it, if it doesn't try something else.

Power chords are just intervals of a perfect 5th. "Drop D" tuning will give you that between the low D (used to be your E) and A string. You can then just barre the two strings, and you've got power chords.
Any alternate tuning that takes the interval from a fourth to a fifth will give you the same thing. Tune your A down to G, and you have a 5th between that string and D, for example.
