Topic: Bending on high E string ?
The tab book of Smashing Pumpkins' Cherub Rock says that I have to bend the 17th fret on the high e string during the solo.
But how am I supposed to bend when the fretboard is air ?

You have a point there. I have a PRS Custom 24, providing me enough space. But most guitars have 22 frets (I think) and I agree that it will be a lot more difficult to bend a string on the 17th string. You can also skip the high E, and/ or change it by a similar, matching string, or trying to find also on the little E, lower, like on the 5th, 6th... fret. If you say no, or if you want to play it exactly as they do, I think you really have to focus on it, but reading your topic, I am afraid that one is better of using a matching sound.
I have a Fender Strat, and do bend on the 17th fret often. I do play the Am pentatonic there sometimes. It's not that bad, you just need to practice with your index finger. You can even use two fingers if you're going up 1 1/2 or 2 full steps. I guess this note is in the key of A?
