Topic: Under 30 over 30

I like to think age shouldn't mean you can't write good songs its only your health that makes a difference. I am sure many on here have some great songs to come out of them later in life. I was interested on Rick Beato take on when the Beatles and other musicians were at their writing or musical best.

Re: Under 30 over 30

Very interesting topic.i`m not sure what the answer is.
I never did a single creative thing till i was 60,i guess the pressures of life
and earning a living decreased and my brain could relax, who knows?

EB If you stay engaged, you will stay creative. Age has little to do with it.  As they say many a good tune is played on an old fiddle.

Re: Under 30 over 30

I find writing harder these days, but the process is also more thought out .... it's also hard with distractions all around, it's easier to chat on Chordie than pull out the video, edit, etc ...

Cheers

Re: Under 30 over 30

Richard, I limit my internet time nowadays as I find it takes me down different rabbit holes and distracts me from doing other things that make me feel good and challenge me in a good way. As my musical dexterity wanes in the last few years I find my creativity instead of sparking a explosion of new ideas in my mind  has become like a flower that no longer blooms making it harder to paint my story in a way that makes my mind dance. Sometimes when I have an idea it does freshen up my mind but when I throw it out there instead of it picking up steam it starts to sink due to me not being able to give it good legs. Having said that there is more to me than trying to write a song so life is good. Age is just a canvas that let my colours blend in a way its freeing not being onto everything. Harry Bernstein started writing his first novel when he was 93. He gained literary fame when it was published when he was96.. He went on to write three more books.

Re: Under 30 over 30

Pedr, everything you write is interesting and an exercise for the mind as with Brian opening pictures in the brain as you very often see and explain things in a very different way, maybe it's because being on the south side of the world makes your imaginations look at life upside downwards? (I was going to say "to normal people" but I wont.he he he)

I watched that Rick Beato blog too and I came to the conclusion that even though I've slowed down in my 70's and in my writings maybe just one song in two or three weeks instead of a song a day the quality of my songs (in my opinion) is better now than 10, 20 or 30 years ago. Not every song but a greater percentage. Unfortunately my music does not conform to today's taste and conversely today's music does not conform to my taste and never the twain will meet. Rick is a very talented musician and producer but I think he is feeling left behind as A.I. endlessly squeezes musos who've done their apprenticeships out of the mainstream. Sermon over

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Under 30 over 30

Cheers Piri, you have a good talent and an excellent way of making music.
As for me living upside down the blood rushes to the brain.
While pushing my thoughts around in strange ways.
While my feet have a good grip on the earth.
My thoughts fly of into space
With age
Our memories dance like leaves in the breeze,

Wisdom's our armour, we wear it with ease.

In every challenge, we see a chance,

To paint our story, to join the dance
Time's a river, that flows so slow,

But in our heart, there's a steady glow.

Lines on older faces tell tales untold,
Age is just a canvas, let colours blend
,
Creativity blooms, it will never end.

Dexterity may wane, but our spirits will soar,

With every passing year, we find even more.

In every wrinkle a spark of gold.

Re: Under 30 over 30

I am too young to join in this conversation bahaha, I wish big_smile   No in all honesty, I never was a writer, never even crossed my mind to write anything down other than back in the day of snail mail to family or friends and even that was occasionally, not a regular thing.  I never ever attempted to write a song until I joined Chordie and even then, it took me a while to write one, it just doesn't come that naturally to me.   I have only to this day actually written 3 completed and performed songs and another half song co-jointly with Peatle on one of his songs years ago that I added too.  A number of silly poems and that's about it from me writing wise.  So yes, I can say I have written more in my more mature years lol and it leaves me wondering, I wonder if I had tried when I was younger, would I have had more of a talent for it then? who knows ......

Re: Under 30 over 30

Hello Jan, your a good talent and a real good sort it is always good to have you do what you do. Thank you for being you. The things we do and pursue shouldn't be governed by age  but hopefully the good things it can do. Age doesn't define you you're a natural talent.
