Topic: October 2023 FSOTM: electron, delicate, layers, funeral, linen, exempt

Hi all,

We have a dozen words to choose from this month as suggested by our members:

electron, delicate, layers, funeral, linen, exempt, kidney, do, donor, bedroom, brake, citizen

With these words, our members can write a poem, create a song or cover somebody else's song which include any or all of those words  and remember to make a suggestion for the upcoming November FSOTM.

Go ahead and make some awesome music!! Looking forward to hearing it!

Thank you, Richard, for taking the time to have a listen and give me some feedback. I hope some more people have a go at this month's FSOTM.

This video is one of the gigs I did at Wanneroo Folk club, and starts with "Light my Fire" - which has the words "funeral pyre" in the second verse:

Good one Richard was that the audience singing along on Light My Fire that I could hear on the video or was it an echo in the hall??? Your two originals very strong songs rhythmically and lyrically also.

Hi Peatle,

Thanks for having a listen; they were singing along (it's a pretty common practice for well known songs there!).

Cheers

I liked that one Peatle, very much how many of us were feeling re voting this year and who for this time around.  I could relate to your lyrics in this song.  I like how you put your thoughts to song.  Nicely done smile

Good to hear the audience joining in with you in your first song Richard.  Always satisfying when the crowd does that, makes it all worthwhile.   Nice to hear your originals too.   That last song you definitely were getting into it, well done smile

Thank you, Jan.  As I get older my cynicism grows every time  I hear a politician speak. I often wonder is the real truth being fed to us or is it being obscured by irrelevant or misleading information. How much is truth how much is propaganda.

That's a good song - I take it that it was pretty new to the band at the time, hope you get to record it. Doing dumb things when we were young ... I guess we've all been there ...

Grah, that is a good song. It takes me back to the days here in NZ when many young Kiwis rode British bikes.
If you owned a Norton Commando here back then you had a much sort after bike due to them costing a bit more than other bikes. Milk-bar cowboys or bodgies who owned motorbikes was the name many of the young rebellious ones were known as here.

Re: October 2023 FSOTM: electron, delicate, layers, funeral, linen, exempt

This is a re-post from songwriting  - try to get a recording here sometime this week.

I qualify bc I used the word " do"   smile

I wrote this over coffee this morning.  One of my friends is having marital problems, and this just popped into words as I was having coffee.

Most likely not perfect - but here it is

Darling, I Keep Hoping That I'm Wrong By Jim Kenyon

[Am] My eyes are so tired, yet I can't sleep at night.

my [E] mind starts racing, when I [Am]turn out the light.

[Am] oh this room is so dark, but I can clearly see,

that [E] you're not coming back, to [Am] be here with me?

.

Chorus

.

[Dm] you said that we’d always [Am] be together

and I [Dm] gave you all my [Am] heart

[Dm]you promised me that you’d [Am]never leave

But [E] Darling , ya’ know we’re falling a [Am] part

.

Verse 2

.

[Am]Remember the good times, oh, the memories we share

But [E]now it feels like you [Am]don’t even care

[Am] I’m sure “never hurt you baby”, were the words you said

But [E]now my heart’s aching, and I’m [Am]feeling ‘bout half past dead

.

Chorus

.

[Dm]should’ve known this was [Am] coming

the [Dm] writing was on the [Am] wall

[Dm]guess it was happening [Am] all along

But [E] Darling, I keep hoping that I’m [Am] wrong

.

Verse 3

.

[Am] So what do we do now, where do we go from here

the [E] look in your eyes betrays you, and mine [Am] are filled with tears

[Am] can my heart trust you, will your love be true ?

I [E] don’t know the answer but I [Am] know, I still love you

.

Chorus

.

[Dm] don't know where this is [Am] gonna fall

I[Dm] don't have any answers at [Am] all

[Dm] don’t know if you'll be [Am] gone forever.

But [E] Darling, forgetting you will be [Am] never.

Chorus  ( repeated)

.

[Dm]should’ve known this [Am] was coming

the [Dm] writing was on the [Am] wall

[Dm]guess it was happening [Am] all along

But [E] Darling, I keep hoping that I’m [Am] wrong

Yeah , [E] Darling, I keep hoping that I’m [Am] wrong

[E] Darling, I keep hoping that I’m [Am] wrong

Re: October 2023 FSOTM: electron, delicate, layers, funeral, linen, exempt

Jim, your lyrics tell it good and many will feel they are about their own relationship breakdown. The sleepiness  and that feeling bout half past dead.

Richard it is good to have you put another song on here from you. You cover a wide range of genres it's good to see that you don't limit yourself to one style. .

Re: October 2023 FSOTM: electron, delicate, layers, funeral, linen, exempt

Grah1, nicely performed by you all.  Good to see your writing skills as well with this one.  You're all looking very relaxed and comfortable as you perform.

TIGLJK, another nicely written song by you, I wish I had your talent to write songs so easily as it seems for you.

neophytte, I agree with Peatle, you can certainly perform a variety of genre`s, a good skill to have.

On another note, I haven't entered anything yet as I am getting over a cold which has had me coughing.  So hopefully I will be over it before this month's FSOTM ends.

Re: October 2023 FSOTM: electron, delicate, layers, funeral, linen, exempt

The room was filled with a soft humming, much like the quiet flow of an electron through a wire—unseen, yet powerful. My gaze rested on the delicate linen draped across the casket, a striking contrast to the heavy emotions that burdened the room. Funerals always seemed to involve layers—layers of grief, memories, and the inevitable unraveling of the past.
