Topic: November 2023 FSOTM: Words from a site

Hi all,

We have sixteen words to choose from this month as suggested by our members!

In alphabetical order:

adorning, broken, cheap, coincidence, coup, crack, creep, crop, fairy, legend, logistic, main, mourning, mystic, property, ritual

With these words, our members can write a poem, create a song or cover somebody else's song which include any or all of those words and remember to make a suggestion for the upcoming December's FSOTM.

Go ahead and make some awesome music!! Looking forward to hearing it!

A recording I made of this song 6 (!?!) years ago, Gypsy Fair starts with the line "Fairy floss and chocolate wheels ..". My son is doing the vocals as I'm covering off the second guitar part with a kazoo:

Re: November 2023 FSOTM: Words from a site

Here is a quickly put together song with the word broken in it. I thought I better give this month a shot in the hope it will inspire others to have a go at CSOTM.

neophytte, I remember this song that you and Jai did, just as enjoyable to listen and watch this time too.  I loved the concentration on Jai`s face.  Though your son will be older now, I hope you both still get to jam together sometimes.  I know you did one with Jai playing piano when he was older, hope this keeps up with you two smile

Peatle great to see you entering another song of yours.  The lyrics, "Seems like the world is broken", are thoughts many people around the world have been thinking these last few years. Good to see how you put this song together.  Always enjoy the videos you put together with your songs smile

Thanks Jandle, I missed this yesterday (I went down the YouTube rabbit hole after watching Peatle - hahah) - yer, we still do the occasional jam, although he is working hard on his own music, mostly for his game, but he did lay down a solo for one of the songs I'll be releasing on CD. He played the songs in a solo piano performance he did as part of the schools musical show.

Thank you, Richard and Jan, for taking the time to have a listen, watch and comment. It would be good to see some others give FSOTM a shot.

I wonder how we can get others to participate?

Thanks, it was meant as a general comment, as we usually have the same people participating; my curiosity is how to get others to submit an entry. The FSOTM seems to go through ebbs and flows where sometimes quite a few will comment (or include a tune), but for the last few months it seems to be a drier patch. Although I also see over the last few months there has been limited participation in a lot of the areas of the forum, not just FSOTM ....

Re: November 2023 FSOTM: Words from a site

I am still coughing so haven't entered anything last month or this month.  So tried to write a quick poem of sorts using the word ADORNING in it.  My writing skills are not the best when it comes to poetry or songs for that matter lol big_smile but at least it's an attempt and something to enter.  Hopefully my cough will go soon enough for me to be able to perform something soon.

ADORNING

"Hello there, good morning,
how did you sleep?"  he asked as I was yawning.
"Not so good" I replied.  "You kept me awake with your snoring".
"Oh, so sorry, I`m overtired" he said.
"For better or worse in marriage,
says that ring, ADORNING your finger".
We both chuckled as I grabbed the milk and continued pouring.
"What's on your schedule today I asked?"
"I need to go down to the mooring,
the boat needs some new parts which I will be ordering".
"By the looks of the weather warning, it will soon be pouring" he said.
"Oh, thought I would pop out for a bit,
go look at a new rug for the flooring.
This adoring purring cat of ours,
well, he ruined the last one with all his clawing".

Good one Jan you are good value. I love those words adorning and pouring, mooring, flooring and clawing.  The cat and the boat morning yawning after a night of a husband snoring.
Take care of your voice I hope you get over your cough soon.

Re: November 2023 FSOTM: Words from a site

Peatle, thanks for the feedback.  It was fun trying to think of words to rhyme.  Yes, me to hope this cough goes away soon, slightly better today smile

easybeat, thanks for your comments too.  It kind of just developed into a conversation more by accident than on purpose smile

I liked it - quite a bit of truth to that conversation !

That poem could go on for days I believe  smile

Well done

You and you son are very talented.
He sure changed a lot as he got older.   Looks so serious playing the keyboard smile

It was fun to watch you two - well done.

Sounded great

Thank you - yes, he has changed a lot over the last few years, he's 14 now and taller than me (and still growing!). He loves playing his keyboard but he doesn't really like the contemporary songs, preferring to make his own music in the old 8-bit video game style. I always support and encourage him to write his own music, as it's a skill not everyone has, and it's a creative process. Personally I think being creative is far better than copying someone else because you take the music beyond where you found it; looking forward, rather than backward ....

Re: November 2023 FSOTM: Words from a site

here's a song I wrote that has the word broken in it

Her Voice Again by Jim Kenyon

.

Verse 1

.

[G]I went down to the river, I was feeling kinda down

I [C] couldn’t find no friends, there was, [G]no one around

[G]tried to think of something happy, but nothing came to mind

Then [D] I thought I heard a familiar voice,[C] coming from be[G]hind

.

Verse 2

[G]That voice always was and still is, my favorite sound to hear

Sounds [C]just like an angel, whispering [G]so softly in my ear

[G]But when I turned to see her face, ya’ know she wasn’t there

So [D]I closed my eyes and I saw her, with[C] flowers in her[G] hair

.

Chorus

.

She was saying…

[C]Always remember the sunshine, it will [G]greet you every day

[C]keep a song in your heart, it’ll [G]keep your troubles away

[C]know that through love, you can do [G]anything you try

So [D] take a leap of faith, and don’t let[C] life pass you[G] by

.

Verse 3

.

[G]I was close to bein’ broke, but thought I was just bein' free

Spent [C]my time hoping things could be the [G] way it used to be

[G]torn apart by a broken heart, a pain that can make you cry

Then [D] I hear her voice saying once again, [C]give love another [G] try

.

chorus

.

She was saying…

[C]Always remember the sunshine, it will [G]greet you every day

[C]keep a song in your heart, it’ll [G]keep your troubles away

[C]know that through love, you can do [G]anything you try

So [D] take a leap of faith, and don’t let[C] life pass you [G] by

Your vision is not limited by what your eye can see, but what your mind can imagine.
Make your life count, and the world will be a better place because you tried.

Excellent, Jim.  You a have a wonderful ability to write songs. I like that line about keeping a song in your heart to keep troubles away.

Richard, it is good to hear Jai is developing into a interesting and good creative young man.
