Topic: Close Your Eyes

A song I had written a while ago - revamped it.

Close your eyes by Jim Kenyon

.

Verse 1

.

[A] There’s a cold wind that’s [D/bm] whistling, through the [D] lonesome [A]pines

I’m [A] just wondering [D/bm] where it’s been, and [D] what it left down the [A]line

It re [A] minds me of a [D/bm] love that once was [D] in this heart of [A] mine

There [A] ain’tnothing [D/bm]quite as lonely as a [D] love that’s left be [A] hind

.

Chorus

[A] Close your [E] eyes to[D]night,

and [A] set your [E]self [D]free

Oh, [A] close your [E]eyes to[D]night,

And [D] tell me what it is, that you [A] see

.

Verse 2

[A]the sunset this [D/bm] evening, marks the [D]end of the [A]day

it [A] makes me sad, ‘cause there’s [D/bm] nothing I can [D] do to make it [A]stay

It re[A] minds me of the [D/bm] night you left, I didn’t [D] know what to [A]say

there ain’t [A] nothing quite as lonely as a [D] love that slips a [A ]way

.

Chorus

.

Please [A] close your [E] eyes to[D] night,

[A] travel [E] back in [D]time

Oh [A] Close your [E] eyes and [D]tell me,

Am I [D] ever on your [A] mind ?

.

Verse 3

.

A There’s a train in the [D/bm]valley,that’s [D] rolling down the [A] track

So [A] hard to tell [D/bm] where it’s heading, or [D] if it might turn [A] back

It re [A] minds me of a [D/bm]love that’s lost and [D]slipped right through a [A]crack

Ya’ know [A] ain’t nothing [D/bm]quite as lonely, as a [D] love you can’t get [A] back

.

Chorus

[A] Close your [E] eyes to[D]night,

and [A] set your [E]self [D]free

Oh, [A] close your [E]eyes to[D]night,

And [D] tell me what it is, that you [A] see

.

Please [A] close your [E] eyes to[D] night,

[A] travel [E] back in [D]time

Oh [A] Close your [E] eyes and [D]tell me,

Am I [D] ever on your [A] mind ?

.

slower

Oh [A] Close your [E] eyes and [D]tell me,

am I ever on your [A] mind ?

Oh [A] Close your [E] eyes and [D]tell me,

am I ever on your [A] mind ?

Re: Close Your Eyes

Hey Jim - Some interesting changes to your song. I prefer the original, as I'm sure you know, but I can see how this version could be sung as backing/harmony of your first. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Close Your Eyes

Hi Jim. Nice writing . The metre seems perfect without me trying to play it, I'll give it a go later.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Close Your Eyes

Jim I like the imagery of the lonesome pines and the train in the valley rolling down the track and the love that's lost and slipped through a crack. Clever lyrics.

Re: Close Your Eyes

Thank you fellas for taking the time to take another look at this.

Jeff - yes I liked the first version as well, but got noodling around and started singing it this way and it was just more comfortable to me.
EB - yeah that chord is an easy move from the A  I was playing it and it sounded good - so I too looked up what it was actually called too.
The reason I have not been so active of late has been that my school called me back in to teach until they can find someone - the teacher they had quit 5 days before the start of school. Plus I am still coaching soccer.
Phill - thanks - I hope you do give it a go. I'm sure you would make it sound a lot better than I can  smile

Peatle - Thanks for your kind words. tried to sneak in  some analogies there.

again - thanks to all for the comments- much appreciated

Re: Close Your Eyes

Nice lyrics to this one Jim.  I like this one very much.  I couldn't find the original that you're talking about so couldnt compare the changes.  Are you going to perform it for us to hear?
