Something I wrote today. Might just turn it into a song...we'll see.

Across the Equator - Jeff Gilpin

I’ve never had the chance to travel
Across the equator
I’ve spent my whole lifetime
In the northern hemisphere
It’s not for fear of traveling
Or a lack of desire
I’ve just never gotten the chance to travel
Across the equator

Maybe someday I’ll get to travel
To the southern hemisphere
To go and see the places there
And meet people there too
I’d love to share with all of them
The stories that I know
And maybe I’ll learn what’s going on
Across the equator

I'm sure a lot I learn will astound me
And I’m sure I’ll learn things that I never knew
I’m sure they'll teach me things
That I’ve never even thought of
And maybe I could teach them something too

If I get the chance to travel
Across the equator
I’ll keep my eyes wide open and
My mind wide open too
The other side of the world is
Just a side I’ve never tried yet
But one day I hope to travel
Across the equator

a telling story Jeff. well written and executed. having crossed the equator myself i found it was just like up here, cold, wet or hot and dusty. hope you get your wish.

Good words Jeff. Coming from down here at the bottom of the South Pacific crossing the equator it use to be a big rite of passage in the days when people travelled to and from  the northern hemisphere mostly by sea. If it was your first time to cross there was an initiation ceremony performed on each voyage at sea. Today most people fly so when you cross the equator there is no ritual performed.
