Topic: Re-write It's love that we lose ( duet version)

It's Love That You Lose By Jim Kenyon

verse 1

.

( Man )

[D]Sitting by the [C]campfire, and my [G]guitar weeps so [D] sad

[D]As I dream of the[C] soft look that [G]her eyes once[D] had

[D] start singing 'bout a [C]love poem, that I [G]once knew by[D] heart

[D]but the meanings gone [C] missing, since [G] we’ve been a[D]part

verse 2

.

(Woman )

[D]I recall every [C] memory and I [G] still call out your[D] name

[D] you know my lonesome [C]heart just won’t [G]ever be the [D]same

[D]should’ve left love to[C] someone, who could [G]lose their wandering [D]boots

[D] someone to hold [C]every night and [G] put down some deeper [D]roots

.

Chorus

.

Ya’ know [C]someday we‘ll get to[G]gether, talk of [C]what we gave a [G]way (Woman)

and how[C] much that we [G]loved each other and [D]why we couldn't stay (Man )

Oh we [C]might talk ‘bout de[G]cisions we made, and that [C] fate was ours to [G]choose (together)

And the [C] cost of chasing [G] different dreams is the[D] love [C]that we [G] lose (together)

verse 3

.

[D] Oh those heartstrings and [C]feelings, they're so[G] hard to for[D]get (Man)

[D] the love we had is the [C] one thing that we [G]never could re[D]gret (Woman)

[D]It could have been so [C] different, but it [G] seems we’ll never [D]know(together)

[D]oh we should’ve known [C] better, than to [G]ever let love [D]go( together)

.

Chorus

And the [C] cost of chasing [G] different dreams is the[D] love [C] that we [G] lose (together)

(slow)

yeah, it's the[D] love [C] that we [G] lose (together)

yeah it's[D] fate that's [C] ours to [G] choose (together)

(real slow)

it's the[D] love [C] that we [G] lose (together)

Jim I like the way you turned this song into a duet.

Re: Re-write It's love that we lose ( duet version)

I like it, Jim! Enjoyed your chance in the chorus and the duet idea works.

Re: Re-write It's love that we lose ( duet version)

That's lovely Jim. Your 2nd verse, the woman part, the last two lines don't work for me, sorry, clean your boots...no! You've got the makings of a great country song with both parties regretting the split, I know you'll say find a better line, so I'll try and get back to you if I get anything.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Re-write It's love that we lose ( duet version)

I further edited this duet changed a few words and chords.

But sorry Phill - I only made a minor  change in that line
It is definitely written as a country song and I think it fits.
Maybe our Texas friend Mojo can give some input as to that line.

Thanks for checking it out .

I dont know sounds ok to me i ran through it a few times trying different things only thing i came up with , and not saying its better just different i,ll let ya,ll judge that

he should have left love to someone who would put down some roots
and sit with me by the fireplace at night and kick off his boots

Mojo I changed it up, but thanks for the inspiration.
Phill  as always your astute observations are always appreciated

If you have further suggestions let me know.

Re: Re-write It's love that we lose ( duet version)

I'm actually getting close to where I really like this song.
A few more practice days and I might learn the words. ( it would be easier if I would quit changing them ! smile  )

I won't record it bc it is a duet.  I may ask my friend and his wife to record it - they are pretty good. I just have to convince them it is a decent song.

Re: Re-write It's love that we lose ( duet version)

Hi Jim. Tonight i had time for the first time since before Christmas so I had a go at your break up song. I've taken some liberties with your words and chords. I didn't realise till I'd worked it all out that it wasn't in "D" but "G" so I've done it in the key of "D" major. You can scrap it and consign it to the bin if you want, no problem, words below, scratch recording to come.

It's The Love That You Lose.

[D] Sitting by the [Bm] campfire. My [G] guitar weeps so [D] sad.
[G] As I dream of the [D] soft look. That her [Em] eyes once [A] had.
[D] Start singing a [Bm] love poem. That [G] I once knew by [D] heart.
[Em] But the meaning has gone [G] missing. [A] Since we've been [D] apart.

[D] I recall every [Bm] memory. And [G] still call out your [D] name.
[G] You know my lonesome [D] heart. Just wont [Em] ever be the [A] same.
[D] I should give my love to [Bm] someone. Who would [G] put down some permanent [D] roots.
[Em] Someone to hold me [G] every night. And [A] kick off his wandering [D] boots.

(CHORUS)

[G] You know some day we'll get [A] together.
[G] Talk of what we used to [D] be.
[G] And how much we loved each [A] other and [Em] why I had to [G] leave.
[D] We might talk about [Bm] decisions we made.
While [G] fate was ours to [D] choose.
And the [Em] cost of chasing [G] different dreams.
Is the [A] love that we must [D] lose.

[D] It could have been so [Bm] different. But I [G] guess we'll never [D] know.
[G] And I should've know [D] better. Than to [Em] ever let you [A] go.
[D] The love we had is the [Bm] one thing. That we [G] never could [D] regret.
[Em] Heart strings and [G] feelings. They're [A] so hard to [D] forget.

(CHORUS)

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Phill

I liked your recording a lot!!!!  It might be a little to happy ( I don't know if that's the right word to describe it)  for me, but holy cow can you ever sing and play !!
If I could play like that and sing like that I would be ecstatic!!

Thanks so much !  You should put it out there for the rest of chordie to hear. ( Or I can do it for you !)

When I send it to my friends I will send your version along with my version (which is pretty bad).

At least they have the country style female voice (and she is good)   smile

Hope it comes out good either way they do it.

Jim

Phill  Thank you so much for taking your time to do this.
I really appreciate it. It makes me feel special to know you took time away from being with Anne and your family to do this kind act for me.  Thanks again !

Re: Re-write It's love that we lose ( duet version)

Not a problem Jim. I get great enjoyment from doing a production on other people's work. I was sorely tempted to put bass and drums on it and probably other things too! Ann doesn't sing, won't sing on tape if you get my meaning?
I've done a few things with Peatle and Easybeat, so I do get great enjoyment from working on others projects and hope I can work with them and others in the future.

I got the impression that the boy/girl were getting back together? Even with break up songs I like a happy ending!

I think this is a case of inadvertent or unintentional influence !
When you asked that it had never occurred to me that it could end up with them getting back together.
I love it !   I changed the very end of it just to enhance it that way.
It certainly leaves the listener with the ability to think of their own interpretation as to what happens .
Thanks for the guidance !

I'm still working on my version. Like I said, it is notg metalized , its "SOCIALIZED" as in SOCIAL DISTORTION style.  Just got to get it refined.
