That is a good one there Bill !! Those fellows were talented musicians, and it shows in their performance. It also shows that they weren't limited to the particular genre they were "famous" for..... not all electric guitars and reverb.
The Ventures were always a bigger "hit" in Japan than they were here, Doug. They constantly filled their venues with their fans: old and young. I have a theory about why an instrumental group would have such a following: Their unique sound, of course; those "in time" dance steps they sometimes used, and finally, their smiles! All four of them looked genuinely happy to be onstage for their fans. I don't know if all of them did this, but I'm sure at least two of them learned the language.

Mel Taylor, the drummer and co-founder. - passed and was replaced by his son Leon, and Don Wilson - one of the founders died this past March from heart complications. WiKi has more on The Ventures if you are interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ventures and there are other concert versions on YT as well.
Enjoy!

AWESOME VENTURES !!
really enjoyable Bill, thanks.
What memories! Not only do I remember the song, I remember the album cover... I still have two copies! That was one of my dad's favorites, so I heard it a lot.
Great song, very nice job. Thanks for the look back in time. Can't tell you how many times I played that song on drums...
