Topic: NBD

Yes, I'm getting a new bass. Not just a bass but an acoustic bass. I've been wanting a new bass for some time and fancied an acoustic but the price seemed a little OTT, then I got an email from Guitar Guitar telling me about their sale. So I scrolled down and eventually came across a D'Angelico single cutaway left hand bass for just £199!! I couldn't believe it. Obviously Ann was not a happy bunny so I bought it anyway and I'm expecting delivery on Wednesday, just 2 more sleeps...well hopefully 2 sleeps?

Re: NBD

Thanks Jim, I think I deserved a little pampering seeing as she spends most of my time looking around dress shops. No, she's good really. There was a slight wobble at first, she's good now...lol

Hi Richard. Official photos on guitar guitar.com. I'll try and post my own pics when I can force myself to put it down, which will be sometime after Wednesday when it arrives.

Re: NBD

Congrats Phill! Neo is right about begging for forgiveness rather than asking permission.

On one of my 2-week Canadian canoe trips a few years back, I came home to find all new living room and bedroom furniture - so last month while my spouse and her sister were visiting the holy land in Israel, I just happened to end up in a music store where I found a used all-mahogany Alvarez MPA66SHB parlor guitar in perfect condition.  It was marked down to $280 US so it ended up in my music room and hardly left my hands for a week. Jen's only comment when she returned home and saw me playing it........ "What - another guitar?"

I spent yesterday installing an under-saddle pickup and stringing it with a new set of Nashville high-tune strings. I played it using metal finger picks during a half-hour set at a local bar last night and my new little baby  got lots of compliments from both the bar patrons and the other musicians.

Nice one Ed, after spending a shedfull of cash on furniture and a load more on a flight to Israel, I think you deserve a little compensation for your charitability and understanding. 300 bucks is a drop in the ocean in comparison?

If you get to be like JJJ was - your wife would never had noticed !! smile
you can never have enough guitars -

Congrats on that pick up !!!

I believe you and Phill could pick up any guitar and make them sound sooooo sweet.  Every time I hear someone like you guys here on chordie play it reminds of the line from the Springsteen song  Thunder road - "Well, I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk "
Sure wish I had he talent you folks have.

Well actually there have been 22 Canadian canoe trips over the years, but since  its a low-cost hobby and I've always split the cost with 3 other paddling/fishing buddies I'd estimate we're about even in the amount of money spent for her trip vs my 22. The furniture she brought probably cost more than 10X what I paid for my Alvarez but I'm sure I'll get 10X the pleasure. smile

Thanks for the kind words Jim but I think you obviously have me confused with someone who can play........
Jen noticed my new guitar but I doubt she would notice if I added another raft, canoe or kayak to my fleet out in the garage. smile

Good one Phill a man has to pamper himself every now and then. A crafty mate of mine brought his wife a guitar to learn on and it just so happened that as a good husband he had no choice but to show her how good a present it was by playing it himself.

Good, sound reasoning. It's a tough job but someone has to do it? How did he get her to cut her nails?

Re: NBD

I've always wanted an acoustic bass.  199 lbs sounds like a good deal.

I'm looking for a new bass today too.

It's a "year end clearance" from Topdawgz. He bought out a store that was closing. He's sold the rest of the inventory, but this bass has a technical problem, so I'm getting it as a project bass. It's a knock-off of a Fender P-bass.  I'm betting I'll just need to replace the jack and maybe the pots. But if I do that then it's no more work to put in new pickups and maybe a different pick guard. And of course make sure all the shielding and grounding is good.

Photos later, once I actually have it.

I don't know about her nails or sharp claws. She is Japanese and every time he buys another guitar or musical gear she uses some very interesting Japanese words.
