Topic: New Music Room Complete

Well, I've finally completed a new music room!

It is almost 100% sound-proof (Roxul "Safe & Sound" insulated), uses 50% wood + 50% porous fibre strips on the walls, hi-density acoustic ceiling tiles, plus staggered-joint "bass traps" in the corners to make the sound warm and not boxy. I discussed the design beforehand with a local sound engineer at a radio station, and he thought the whole concept was ideal. I wired the whole room on a 20-amp isolated ground circuit (no noise, no power drop), the lights are dim-able LEDs (no 60-cycle hum), and my "babies" are hung up where I can't kick them over. big_smile The stereo is a 200-watt Kenwood + Polk Audio studio monitors, so I can crank it up and play along with all of my favorite groups.

Just need to finish wiring in the heater and get the effects pedals set up, and the grass may not get mowed for a l-o-n-g time! lol

Sounds like green eyed monster time....

on my part, how I wish I could have that in my pathetic excuse for a studio!

When you're driving a Bentley, do you worry about overtaking a mini? Grass will grow, it'll still be there tomorrow or next week...next year?

I looked into your post and the link to the photos go nowhere. This is what I got when I Googled your link:

Suggestions:

Bummer ... for whatever reason I can see them here in Chordie, but no one else can.

I can't get my photos from my PC to an Internet Site anywhere. Tried Picasa, Google+ Photos, etc., but keep getting run around in endless loops which are driving me crazy! They've worked in the past, but new "improvements" they've made have added more complexity (as often happens).

You're welcome to jump onto my webserver forum: http://neophytte.mine.nu/forum/ (you'll need to register) and pop them into the "Photography" section, from there you can add them to this site by using the "copy image location" from a right click (in FireFox). It's been a while since I've used it, I think there is a restriction on file size, but I can't remember what it is ....

If you get stuck, or need further instructions, send me a PM ....

So I just trashed my Google+ Photos account, and opened a Flickr account. It's far more simple to use, and I hope you can see my pics now.

Thanks, for the great comments, everyone! It certainly was a fun project to plan out, and I was appreciative of the input I obtained from people who know about things like sound absorption, bass traps, amperage loads, etc.

MOJO, TIG, DE, ZURF --- thanks so much. It actually wasn't that costly to build (about $1500 all in) in an unfinished end of our basement.

PHILL --- my wife has named it "Zebra Studios", but there's no hourly rate ... drop by anytime. big_smile

NEO --- it's a 12' x 12' room, and I'm standing in the doorway taking these pics. There's a recliner and a snack table next to it to the lower right-hand of where I'm standing.

BEAMER --- you read my mind about the rug. Here's a pic of the one I plan to get for it ($300 at Wayfair):
