Topic: Ode to a Special Education teacher

I wrote this song as a year end tribute to a Special Ed teacher in our school. She is such a wonderful teacher and loves her job and her kids -she is amazing.

Fly Away: Thank You Ms. Holmes By Jim Kenyon

[C]Sometimes school just seems to be so [G]hard

[C]rules to follow and things that we have to [G]do

[C]and sometimes our lives can be so [G]unkind

[Am] that’s why we need your [C]help to get us[G] through

.

[C]seems each day’s a challenge just to get [G] by

[C]there’s good days, and some that are really [G] rough

[C]we know you’ve got our back at every [G]turn

[Am]you keep us [C] going, when the going gets [G]tough

.

Chorus

[G]So give me some love and a little smile

[D]Show me you care for just a little while

And I’ll [C]hear what you say…. Yeah I’ll learn to[G]day

[G]So give me some love and a little smile

En[D]courage me for a little while

And I’ll [C] learn today…. Then I can fly a[G]way

Yeah[d] with a little [C]help I can fly a[G]way

.

[C] you’ve opened our eyes to the wonders of the [G]world

[C]brought out our best, and taught us right from [G]wrong

[C]Lent a helping hand when we have fallen [G]down

[Am]You show us[C] kindness and how to be [G]strong

.

[C]you put the hope of tomorrow in our [G]eyes

[C]yeah, you believed in us, right from the [G]start

[C]You showed usthe many ways we could [G]grow

[Am]and you’ve left your hand[C]print upon our [G]hearts

.

[D]Thank you Ms. [C]Holmes for helping me [G] fly

This is so good and it brings back memories from much younger days. Great  work Jim and I know how much it means to you.

Re: Ode to a Special Education teacher

Ms Holmes must have been one great teacher to inspire you to write such beautiful words about her. I hope you record and post this one

Re: Ode to a Special Education teacher

It's nice to know that some teachers are still appreciated the way they were back in my day. All the teachers seemed to be in their 70s and loved the freedom they had to use the cane! Some because they could make a joke of it and entertain us hooligans. And some because they were sadistic perverts still rooted in Victorian times. Ah! how things have changed?

From your words I detect a bond of respect and fondness for your colleague, the words describe it perfectly. Well done headmaster, another winner.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Ode to a Special Education teacher

Such a terrific tribute to person who has obviously made a positive difference. Some teachers do indeed seem indifferent to their duties, but many / most of them are in the profession because it's a calling, and the care they exhibit is impressive.

A great honor for a great lady! Lovely words which I know she will enjoy hearing as a song, should you choose to record it, Jim.

Re: Ode to a Special Education teacher

That's awesome.
I wrote a poem to my High School "Competency"  math teacher called 4 Wheel Wonder.  He was paralyzed form mid chest down.  We stayed very close after HS and he was a great friend.  He liked it so much that he had someone write it in calligraphy with India ink and framed it.

I think your friend will love this also. The chorus is so true and accurate for anyone.  That smile and word of support does make you want to learn, and can brighten a dark day.
