Topic: quiet times on Chordie

The forums have been so quiet lately, weekends have been that way for quite a while. It's a shame that with all the members Chordie boasts, only a few can be bothered to come to the forums and chat unless they want something, eg how to do this, how to get rid of that, where can i find this or that song etc. I must admit that I've been guilty of not posting or beginning new discussions myself. For that I apologise. On the other hand I don't frequent Face book or any other sites of that nature so I do my venting here as it's great to help in any way or review original songs or poems. I am limited as far as the technical side of music or even computing is concerned, but I try.

Been a bit  busy  my  self  Phill   though I  do  check  the  site  most  days .I've  had  a  fair  amount  of  club and  festival  slots recently .

Summer is starting and ppl are outside.

Phil we have discussed this before also.  I keep posting, and its crazy that only the same 3 to 5 ppl reply yet in 2 hours there were 65 hits on this latest one.

Hi Grah,  yes same here only no festivals mainly hotels and pubs. it's dirty work but someone has to do it? And those pint pots don't get any lighter...lol

Hi Scott, not many people outside here as it's been raining all day, horrible drizzley stuff. Last summer was so much better. I suppose we'll have to wait another 5 years for a summer that good.

I've been pretty busy, my new job is 1.5hrs travel each way, but it's finishing in a couple of weeks, so then I'll be busy finding a new way to feed the family ....

Posting on the Forum is something I've enjoyed daily, even if it's just to encourage someone else who has posted. There's been some terrific poems / songwriting recently, and when a fellow Chordian takes time to show us their work, I feel it's only proper to acknowledge it. Truth is, it's all quite good! And CG's Friday Blues page is always enjoyable.

I try and have a look in at chordie once a week. I am not much of a computer  guy, I tend to email more, but I do enjoy reading and checking out the links the good people of chordie post on here.

Cool!! I've just bought myself one ... was on my mind for some time, especially after I saw a build on instructables for a 9 string guitar (which was basically a 6 string, with double courses on the 3 high strings). it came in at a bargain price, but I just need to adjust the truss rod and put some new strings on it ...

I think one of the tricks to make it sound thicker is to detune by a tone, then put a capo on the 2nd ... but yet to experiment with that smile

i've tried detuning and found it didn't sound right on my 12 string box! i know it aint a good make or anything but it does sound better in concert pitch. i also broke the high G string so i left it off, i only miss it if i'm doing a solo

Check your capo is successfully fretting the smaller strings on the lower notes; some of the cheaper capos are too 'stiff' and won't deaden the strings correctly ... they will make a "thud" type sound which is not very nice. I found my mid-range capo did this, but my expensive (Thalia) capo was good, and my cheapest ($3 China special) worked quite good ....

The reason why Chordie at times gets not as busy is because at times rather than staying on topic or starting a new thread like this one, gets way off topic. The original intent of the topic becomes meaningless and that is not fair to anyone.
