The most chords used in songs, and I am not mentioning # or b, are A  B  C  D  E  F  G

- Add a melancholic touch using the "minor chords Am  Bm   Cm  Dm   Em  Fm   Gm

- Add a bluesy touch:  A7   B7   C7   D7   E7  F7  G7.
If you can play all these chords flawless, you are already a quit good guitar player.
