Topic: Waiting on the Snow to Fall

Cold day with weather coming has tied me down today so I thought I would write a song about it. For some reason, like many of my songs, it turned country; although, no dog dies in this song, or for that matter, in the writing of the song. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.

Waiting on the Snow to Fall By Jeff Gilpin

Capo 1

.

Verse A A7 D; A A7 E; A A7 D; A E A

Chorus D D7 A; A A7 E E7; A A7 D; A E A

.

Intro - strumming or finger picking around A

.

[A]Waiting on the [A7]snow to fall in the [D]morning.

[A]Supposed to start [A7]sometime to[E]day.

[A]Waiting on the [A7]snow to fall so [D]staying home for now,

And [A]waiting for the [E]weather to come my [A]way.

.

[A]Winter weekend [A7]cold and gray and [D]lonely.

[A]Thinking any[A7]time my phone’s gonna [E]ring.

[A]Waiting for a [A7]sign you’re still thinking [D]of me,

And I’ll keep [A]waiting on though [E]I’m not hearing a [A]thing. [A7]

.

[D]Thinking about the [D7]last time I [A]saw you.

With [A]tears you told me [A7]you were moving [E]on. [E7]

All [A]I could do was [A7]stand there feeling [D]helpless,

[A]Wondering what I’d [E]done to make it [A]wrong.

.

So I’m just [A]sitting here [A7]looking out my [D]window.

Trees [A]standing still though [A7]weather’s coming [E]soon.

[A]Watching while I [A7]wait on for a[D]nother day.

[A]Keeping time a[E]lone here in this [A]room.

.

[A]Not sure what to [A7]do while I’m [D]waiting.

[A]Nothing seems to [A7]be the thing to [E]do.

[A]Trapped inside my [A7]thoughts that roll and [D]tumble,

With [A]every path I [E]think leading to [A]you.

.

[D]And I try and re[D7]call every [A]detail;

[A]Though, it seems your [A7]picture starts to [E]fade. [E7]

The [A]longer you’re a[A7]way I’m thinking [D]maybe

I can [A]get out of this [E]puzzle that you [A]made.

.

So I’m [A]waiting on the [A7]snow to fall this [D]morning.

[A]Supposed to start [A7]sometime in the [E]day.

[A]Waiting on the [A7]snow to fall so [D]staying home for [D7]now,

And [A]waiting for the [E]weather to come my [D]way.

...let the D linger and fade.....

Re: Waiting on the Snow to Fall

That's a great song Jeff. just reading through and imagining how the chords play and how the melody line sounds, it sounds nice and easy. If you've still got a few moments while the snow holds the outside world at bay, a recording would be nice?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Waiting on the Snow to Fall

Thanks Phill. I do plan to record this, after a round of shoveling to clean my driveway and sidewalk that is.

JEFF

i have played this through a few times - it has the making of a really fine country song - at least how that's how I play it.
It flows really nice and the lyric is top notch!
Well done
Can't wait tohear your version to see if it is similar to how I am playing it, but obviously better bc I can't play too well or sing a bit. smile

Thanks also for the keen  insight to bridge how weather can be impactful on one's mindset.

Cool song man !

Re: Waiting on the Snow to Fall

Thanks Jim...I'm in from shoveling now so I'll put my version up soon...found a typo in the first chorus....(second line ends E E7 not D D7)...although the second one is correct.

Holy cow - I thought it was Willy singing.  Fantastic performance - Great song !!

Re: Waiting on the Snow to Fall

sounds even more poignant than the reading. your voice lends itself so well to this kind of song, almost Willy Nelson, and the guitar is just right.

i'm so jealous. and impressed

Re: Waiting on the Snow to Fall

Thanks you two. I am a Willy Nelson fan too so I don't doubt he influences my writing. I wasn't trying to sing like Willy but it just came out that way I suppose.

Re: Waiting on the Snow to Fall

Nice work, Jets ... your chord selection (lots of 7th's) really suits to lingering message in the words. And your playing & singing are equally balanced ... excellent all around work, dude!

Very impressed. We are running an inaugural Singers Songwriters Talent Quest here in Bay of Plenty, NZ in August. Would love your permission to play your song to the audience to show what singer songwriting can achieve. Is there a story behind the song?

You absolutely have my permission, and thank you very much for the complement. There kind of is a story, but not exactly what you might think. There was a projected heavy snow coming our way so we, me and the wife, couldn't go do any of our weekend chores. So I had time to write a song and I decided to make is about someone who had their heart broken in my weekend snow situation. After that I tried to find a good tune to fit the mood and I think I came close. I would love to hear how it turns out too, if you care to share when it is done.  V/R - Jeff G/jets60
