Right back at ya, CG ... I appreciate you taking the time to find talent to introduce it to us. I'll be up-front that I'm not really a serious blues fan. But talent is talent, which always can truly be appreciated apart from the genre.

Wow ... they're all first rate in their own way. The dude on the street has a fantastic voice, but I liked Norah's vocals best, and the instrument ensemble accompanying Janis best. Three unique and different versions of the same song ... nicely done, CG!

Never had heard of her, but I really like her voice.
Question about the lead guitar riff: What's it called when you play as this guy does - making a chord and then playing every string in succession slowly like that? Hope I am asking this correctly and it's a method of playing I am familiar with since I started with my first band in 1966. I believe we played "Summertime" this way.

Bill I have seen Summertime written three different ways so you have some choice. The more traditional way is probably the best and it is not hard to play. Just to mention it I am trying to choose blues for current people who are still active.

I think the reason why Summertime has been interpreted in differant ways is it is a song that makea a performer want to dig deep when playing and singing it. Whenever I hear it sung by good singers I get a warm fuzzy feeling.
Okay - let me try again with an example. I know I'm not making myself understood so it's me - not you - with the problem.
This is "Color My World" by Chicago. It;'s not a guitar playing the lead notes of the chord, it's a piano, but I think it's the same thing when a guitar plays it.
Is this in D? But no matter what key it's in, the guitarist would make the chord and then pick the notes of it one at a time. I'm just wondering if this kind of playing has a name? Or is it just a scale?

Hi Bill ...
I'm not sure what the name of a lot of guitar technique is called, but as a Jethro Tull fan I do a lot of picking within the various chords. I guess I'm like the Joker in "The Dark Knight Rises", i.e., I just do things. 
It certainly is a great way to add a bit of interesting detail to a song when trying to sing at the same time, and isn't much more difficult than singing and strumming at the same time. Jim Croce also used this technique a lot, as well as James Taylor, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, etc.

Very powerful, soulful voice ... really enjoyed this song, and I also learned it's an original of hers' ... well written, and well performed. (The guy with the well-worn Strat is pretty good, too!)

Wow! That was amazing!
I had no idea that Mr. Laurie could play and sing like that ... fantastic contribution, CG. He was a very convincing actor in "House", but didn't know he had other talents at this high level. I did a quick look, and also found out that he bears the distinguished title of "Commander of the British Empire" (C.B.E.) like Paul McCartney, David Gilmour, and others ... quite the achiever.

TF thank you and he now doing what he always wanted to do. He was individual rowing champion in college. He now just blues full time.

I awoke this morning thinking "It's Blues Friday ... gotta check Chordie!" (no kidding, I did) and you came through again. Warren Haynes has been a favorite of mine since his days with The Allman Brothers. He has such a relaxed, unforced style ... reminds me somewhat of BB King.
