This is fantastic, Neo ... many thanks! I'm not a song writer, but do write a lot of poetry. I've always found it best not to force it, but using tools like your chart has will certainly stimulate the thought process. Great post ... thanks again!
Yep that pretty much covers it. Like TF, I don't try to force it. Most my writing is reactionary. In response to my mood. Mostly they are from anger or depressed emotions, but some come from something another song or what I am watching inspires .
Looking at the list, over the years I've used 1,3,4,6,8,9,10,15,16,18,19,and 25 to write songs. I've had writer's block for some time now, maybe I should try some of the other suggestions.

To be honest, at the moment I'm trying not to write songs. I'm noticing that they're all beginning to sound the same! I also seem to be going round in circles with topics; love, hate, war, cruel partners etc even guitar songs. So I'm just jotting down notes that come into my head, usually on the same sheet of paper till they write themselves, of course a nice guitar lick or chord progression helps too.
As I play by feel I hardly ever know what I am playing just the lyrics. Most chords I play on guitar on piano I couldnt tell you what they are. I have never really set out to write poetry or songs it happens and I don't know why. If I dont write something for a while I don't get withdrawal symptoms but I know many of my friends who write need to as it is their addiction. My problem when I do put a song together is often I find out after a while that my ideas is not that original. That is most probably why I like the Blues because no one worries about the fact that you are flogging other peoples ideas and adapting it to your own story.
it was said some time ago that every song would have been written by the year 2000 so nothing can be completely original. there is only one key cos the other eleven are just repeats of it played up the scale (or down?) to me it's the words you write and the feel you put into a song that defines it. as i hinted, there's only 4 basic chords in any key plus their derivatives eg; 6ths, 7ths, 9ths diminished or augmented etc, majors and minors. the rest is all you...and you do it so well. happy new year to you and your family
