Topic: OCTOBER 2018 FSOTM – CHALLENGE MONTH

Hey everyone, for OCTOBER we are going to have a CHALLENGE MONTH again, we haven’t had one of these in a while!

What does that mean?  It means YOU can CHALLENGE ANYONE to a SONG of YOUR CHOICE!  That`s right … YOU can COVER it YOURSELF if you want and then CHALLENGE SOMEONE ELSE to COVER it  …  OR you can just CHALLENGE SOMEONE to COVER a SONG of your choice!

Now ….. just to add to the FUN, you can also do any INSTRUMENTAL COVER YOURSELF and or CHALLENGE a member to do any INSTRUMENTAL COVER if you want, that`s right ….. so, there`s no escaping for those members out there who like to perform INSTRUMENTALS but are not so keen on the singing part.

So, with that all said, start SUGGESTING SONGS, INSTRUMENTALS and  start CHALLENGING MEMBERS! ready for this months FSOTM!

READY!  SET!  GO!

1.    easybeat challenged neophytte to covering …. Reconsider by Charlie Robison.  Now easybeat has challenged neophytte to not only cover this song but to make it his own, in other words not like the original.
2.    easybeat challenged Jandle to covering … a Jazz version of Fly Me To The Moon.
3.    easybeat challenged Anyone to cover … a Chordie Song from One Of Our Chordie Members.
4.    Neophytte challenged Anyone to cover these two songs …. Crazy by Patsy Cline and You and Me by Alice Cooper.
5.    Jandle challenged neophytte to covering … An Original Song from any Chordie Member.  You get to pick one from any of the talented song writers here in Chordie (just go the song writing section) and cover one of their songs in your own way.
6.    Jandle challenged Roger Guppy to covering … A Heavy Metal number (of your choice). 
7.    Jandle challenged easybeat to covering … Any Song from last months (September) FSOTM Songs and to cover it as close as possible to the original cover, in other words, NOT making it your own version, or your own style.
8.    Jandle challenged beamer to covering … A Lullaby Song of your choice.
9.    Jandle challenged Mojo01 to covering  … a song from a Musical of your choice.
10.    Jandle challenged TIGJKL to covering … a Bob Dylan song of your choice.



Now, these are just some challenges that have already been made.  Please feel free to add more challenges to other members in Chordie.

One of my challenges for this month (October 2018) from the good people of chordie.com, was to cover a song I'd never heard before. The song was nominated as "Reconsider" by Charlie Robison. It was more challenging than I imagined, as you don't have even a rough guide for phrasing and structure - so whilst you have the chords and the lyrics for the song, they only form a part of the picture. Anyway, this is my take, I hope you like it - I'm off to listen to what the original sounds like ... smile

you have really risen to the challenge,good on you.
Like what you have done to this song.
Just goes to show same song two versions,both great!
I often have a go @ unknown songs,you often get a feel for it from the
words & chords anyway.It`s what we do when we write, but we add our own nuances.

I amazed every time one of you here on chordie can do something like this. 
I certainly wish I had your talent.

Although I too have never heard the song, I really don't need to hear the  original -
your version works just fine for me!

I'll hold my hand up, guilty as charged - I always listen to all the entries, but with the chordie forum, when clicking a link, it opens in the same window, and I forget to go 'back' after viewing the clip, or get otherwise distracted (mainly by little ones!!!). So if I haven't commented on anyones, apologies .... you guys/girls are all really talented!! smile

Thanks - the original was a lot slower than I expected, however it had a 'country' feel to it, which I kinda did too, but at a more rapid pace ...

Another Chordie challenge for me this month (October 2018) was to do a song written by one of the chordie members - this song was written by two members, Brian Maynall & Phil Williams. Brian sent me an email last year (!) asking if I'd like to do a version of his song, so, almost a year later, here is "If it's good enough for Buddy". That was good ... is that in the Willie Nelson style? I haven't heard the original for a long time either, and tend to play it a bit more down-strummy rather than picked ... I hope you leave it up for longer!!

Yeah Willie wrote it,i think he did a just kinda vocal/guitar.
i`ve never played this before, it was a quick off the cuff.
Just read the words and played the chords so probably not very accurate.

Wow EB that was excellent Richard and Jan gave you a challenge that showed your good vocal and guitar talent. Like Willie you did it in a nice laid back way..     Neo did a great job of EB and Phills song. I have enjoyed  listening to this months FSOTM contributions.
