Re: NGD

Nice rig, NEO ... I love that it's got a Floyd Rose, and not the usual stock Fender tremolo ... much more stable. How's it sound?

Re: NGD

Thanks all, to answer you individually:

Nope, I'm not really a whammy bar guy; and I think it's locked with a tremelo-no or something ...

Thanks - I like blue; it goes with my PRS (also the sme year):

It's actually a Kahler tremelo system, for a rare period between 1988 and 1989 they were fitted as stock in a few guitars which were made in America, but assembled in Japan, or something like that - stories vary on the web, there is a similar (sold item) on Reverb here. To quote from that advert:

Made in Japan (MIJ) Standard Stratocaster -

During their transition into a new facility beginning in 1984, Fender went through a period of relatively low domestic output when they were subsequently forced to rely more heavily on Japanese imports to meet demand. As evidenced by the rise in popularity of Japanese brands during the 70’s and 80’s, the FujiGen Gakki-made Fenders were exceptionally well-made. At least one account states that when the first shipments of these guitars arrived at  Fender, some builders actually cried when confronted with a Japanese standard of quality that had yet to be achieved in American production. Regardless of the veracity of such a story, the quality of this guitar’s construction and performance is self-evident, as it could certainly hold its own against any Strat made today.

While the addition of the Kahler Spyder undoubtedly adds a bit of weight (and complexity!) to this guitar, it is still a manageable 8.2 lbs and physically well-balanced. Though the guitar is used, (snip...)

Obviously the Kahler floating tremolo system is one of this guitar’s more distinctive features. Though perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea, the Kahler tremolo makes this Strat a great value for anyone in need of a dive-bombing shredder guitar (or simply a more stable instrument). While not pictured, please note that the appropriate tremolo arm is included! On a final note, all proceeds of this sale will go towards the purchase of student model guitars for charity. Thanks for looking!

FEATURES
    Alder Body
    1 11/16 Nut Width
    Maple Neck with Maple Fingerboard
    Black Fingerboard Markers
    3-ply White Pickguard
Aged White Control Knobs and Switch Tip
3 Single Coil Pickups w/5-Way Switch
Kahler Spyder Floating Tremolo w/Lockin Nut

I want to give it a good clean and a setup before I plug it in!!

So now my wife wants to know if you have blue eyes...... If I didn't know better......;).

Anyway she's got her hands full with her blue-eyed, blond-haired German. (Who also likes blue guitars!)

I can't get this thing to work (again). Anyway, I'm the guy with the blue Takamine Jasmine on the far right - if someone can fix this. If not, you'll just have to take my word for it, neo. wink

Re: NGD

I also have green eyes but my strat is white a la George Harrison during his Bangladesh period. I only used the tremelo arm/whammy bar on Shadows tunes, for other FX I used the heel of my hand. I'm missing it now.... I'll have to get it out of the box and have a noodle.

Congrats on a lovely guitar...I love that PRS, I don't suppose you want to donate it to a worthy charity namely me?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Heh - yea, first time I've had to take a bridge out to change the strings (but it ends up you don't have to take it out, however it was good to get the dust out!!). I still haven't found how to properly intonate the thing ...

Did ya see this? https://www.whammyparts.com/images/PDF's/2720%20Spyder%20adjustments%20and%20setup.pdf

As an alternative just play one note at a time. It’ll at least be less obvious.

Thanks - I did, but it wasn't until I looked at it just then I saw the intonation adjustments .... smile

Cheers for that!!

Well, that PDF wasn't entirely accurate (maybe it was, and I didn't see it), but the intonation on my early Spyder is set by loosening the strings, then loosening the hex nut directly under the string, apparently this allows the saddle to slide back and forth - thanks to Bob Kahler for showing me the way!!

Cheers

Sorry, missed this one ... hmm, I've thought about selling it, as the guitar-synth stuff is another artform in itself .... check this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmsio4QHJuI
