Topic: hUMBUCKER help

ok  i  NEED SOME ADVICE HERE

I am in the process of building a homemade Les Paul 1959  style guitar.

I have the body pretty much done except for the neck pocket. Which I hope to make tomorrow.

I need to know what humbuckers ( Bridge and neck ) would be good ones to put in and yet be somewhat reasonable in price.

If any one can give me some tips and point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.  It was so much easier building my strat than this baby, but if I don't screw it up, I think it will be awesome.

Hey Jim ... another one in progress, eh? Good for you! The wiring for a Les Paul is indeed a bit more complex than a Strat, 'cuz we can't buy a pre-wired pick-guard and just drop it in. It's pretty hard to go wrong with pickups from Guitar Fetish (1/2 to 1/3 the price of brands) and here's the link to their Humbucker selection:

An original Les Paul pickup would have had Alnico II magnets, and the GF "Classic II" has that traditional tone of the original Gibson "Classic 57's" or "490's.". The GF website has sound bites for most of their products, so you can hear how they sound ... just run your laptop through a decent set of speakers.

For what it's worth, I'm going to build a Les Paul for a winter project, and am planning a set of Seymour-Duncan P-Rails for it ( https://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/p- … et-black-3 ). They're a lot more $$$, but I love the versatility they offer, with 3 distinct pickup voicings for each one.

Gotta ask .. .what color are you going to dress it up with?

Seymour Duncan’s website has a pickup matcher that provides suggestions based upon user inputs.  I would start there.

I agree with TF Guitarfettish offers quality parts at very reasonable prices I have ordered many things from them over the years.

Why not some GFS rails, they are great.  I have used the strat size humbucker rails and the regular HOT Rails in my sons flying V.
