got my first today
its an epiphone les paul standard with the sunburst finish with grover tuners all chrome hardware with 2 epiphome humbuckers in it
also got a case and a marshall g30rcd
it sounds sweet distorted after i tried out most of the amps at the place this also had the best clean channel
dont have any effects other than the reverb on the amp so if you can recomend any peddles id love to get some oppinions
15 years ago I would have told you to get a Crybaby Wah. Period. I've been playing with a Pod for the last 6 years and I'll tell you now, get every pedal you see! Phasers, delays, flangers, distortion pedals (even if your amp has a good overdrive circuit, add a distortion pedal to that mix and shread!). I have a Pod XT Live that has everything built in and I love it. Don't go too crazy with the effects -- you play guitar, not effects pedals; but learn how to blend them in to what you're playing.

I go for seperates myself.
I use-:
Boss OD20 overdrive/distortion
Boss DD3 digital delay
Boss CE3 Chorus
Boss CS3 Compressor/Sustainer
Cry Baby Wah
Foot Volume control
Be careful........connecting them in the correct order is essential.
The Chorus and distortion pedals should be connected BEFORE the foot volume control so that you can cut the volume WITHOUT loosing the effect. Also the sound wil be affected by which way round you put the compressor and the distortion (but that is a matter of taste )The set up that I use is
Guitar-->compressor-->(*volume control)-->distortion-->chorus-->delay-->amp
I put the volume control into the effects loop so that I can use it to control the 3 different channels on my amp (Messa Boogie Nomad 55)
*If used in-line

I've been playing guitar for 25 years but have never used pedals.
I would love to start with the affects tho....could you guys give me an example of a perticular song and the exact settings and which affects pedal you use. I dont understand how to set up, and adjust each affect. get what I'm saying?

Easiest way is to walk into a music shop and ask to try a few.
I think the wah-wah pedal is the most obvious one as it is so distinctive........listen to Jimi Hendrixs' All along The Watchtower. I started to use the wah-wah when I first heard 'The Theme From Shaft by Isaac Hayes. It laid down a very distinctive rythmn.
It's just as well to note NOT to overdo the effects.
You can get some very good heavy metal sounds from jus a plai and simple distortion pedal, but there's nothing like driving the amp flat out!!(although the neighbours might complain)

i guess it depends what sort of music you enjoy playing. when i started, i tended to play a lot of nirvana stuff and found that ti was worth buying a BOSS MT2 Metal Zone. it's a distortion pedal which i found useful for switching quickly to the distorted guitar bits on songs like 'smells like teen spirit.' because it isn't really very practical to poke the distortion button on the amp when you're in the middle of playing.
other than that, the cry baby wah wah pedal is a nice one if you're into a bit of solo work and jimi hendrix stuff.

thx but im more into blues and classic rock than nirvana like stuff
im gonna hold off on effects till i can get a nice all tube amp
(probably a peavey classic 30 for Christmas

i dont like using the distorters because it really dosent make your guitar sound good but it's gd 4 the jimmi hendrix stuff;)
If its a first guitar then I'd say nothing too complicated.
I'd go with a digitech RP. I have the Rp-50, no pedal, but a place to plug in one. it was only $60
The Rp-80 has a pedal...and they go up from there.
i've been playing for a few years, and i bought my first pedal about 2 months ago. It's a behringer V-Amp and sounds pretty cool. Behringers a good make and for the money is pretty good value. You can also plug your headphones in so its good for practicing.
Okay, I'm readin up on a V amp2 by behringer. Its got a list price of 99 bucks. is that a good price? and is the crunch on it a good overdrive?
any body out there have one of these?

If you have not been playing long then I would forget about any type of effects as the the new noises of effects pedals will only distract you from learning. If you do decide to go for effects then I would urge you to make sure whatever you play sounds good clean as distortion and overdrive pedals are often used to cover up bad playing.
