He is excellent-----   the muscle development and stretching to accomplish that must be incredible.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Thanks, TIG ... I'm amazed at his flat-picking precision. With eyes closed, it sound like someone with fingernails using all of their fingers. He doesn't pluck an unintentional string throughout the whole song. On some of his other songs, he's doing solid hammer-on / pull-offs with his pinky, at 2 or 3 frets away from the rest of his hand. I tried, and although I have the reach, I don't have the strength. I wonder if the local gym can help with that? lol

Another beautiful piece from Michael, with various under currents that suit the locale.

Out the door early tomorrow, so posting early. Lots of finger-flying going on here ... great use of thumb pick & fingers to create multiple melodies.

A couple of Canadian lads showing their chops ... fun to watch & listen to!

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Thank you TF  I enjoyed Don and Calum playing.

Greg Howard    "Walking on the Moon"    (by Sting)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSH03OfRckI

The Chapman stick typically has 10-strings, as opposed to the 12-string version being played here. There are two separate pickups on either side of the string bank, so that effects can be run through one side, while maintaining a clean tone on the other. Greg has a nice touch here, with nice rhythms along with the song.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

That Chapman stick is really cool.

Tapping instead of strumming - really neat.

Sound was awesome - that guy is a master of that instrument for sure.

Thanks for sharing that TF

Glad you liked it, TIG ... it's hard to tell where the line between guitar and piano is.

It's fitting that Ewan is wearing a martial arts outfit, because that pinky of his could take out Chuck Norris on his best day. lol This is 9-minutes of some of the best fret work I know of ... intimidating yet very enjoyable.

Don Ross    "Cup of Pop"    (original)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeKdexYfPCk

A few summers ago, we had friends from Philadelphia visiting, and had a BBQ supper on the deck one evening. My pal asked me to pour him a "glass of soda", and we started chuckling about how we use different terms for things. The title of this song is what us Canucks would ask for.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

TF Don Ross is brilliant.
What you call Pop in Canada we call  Soft Drink. For us Kiwi's Soda is water  infused  with carbon dioxide. to make it bubble.

Muriel's warm candor and amazing talent makes this an ideal entry for my 100th "Flying Fingers" post. The song's title refers to the Mediterranean-feel 13/8 time signature it's written in ... enjoy!

I was playing exactly like that all night long last night............................

Then I woke up from my dream ! smile

Thanks for sharing - she's friggin' great !

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

Tenement Funster thank you for including  Muriel Anderson  . She is very good on a classical guitar. Do not know if you noticed she rarely looks at her fingers. Every  classical guitar is the same size and if you know what you are playing you do not have to look at you fingers. She plays a wide  variety of music and her technique i is well known.

She's an amazing talent, for sure ... glad you enjoyed her. I agree that not looking at ones fingers does reflect a level of skill, but not always. In another piece of her's I posted on Dec 19, 2017 ("View From Space") she's playing her harp guitar, and never takes her eyes off her fingers. Different guitar, different piece of music.

I play a number of different guitars (classical, electric, 6- and 12-string acoustic, bass) and they all have varying scale lengths and neck widths. I can do many things without looking, but not always ... probably reflects my skill level more than anything.

Re: Tuesday's Flying Fingers

TF  great choice Muriel Anderson for this one hundreth post. I love her double-album, Nightlight Daylight,. I love the way that even though she is doing something very complicated it feels relaxed and flows. Watching her on youtube her smile and the almost very casual way she relates to the audience makes you feel part of what she is doing.. Brilliant thank you.

Sting & The Police    "Every Breath You Take"    (arranged & performed by Alexandr Misko)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0tq85QiHGc

Lots of intricate technique being used here ... retuning using both the Spider capo and pegs, touch harmonics, palm-muting the lower strings, soft percussive elements, etc. Outside of all that, it's a beautiful arrangement of a terrific tune ... sounds awesome.

A new artist for this week's Flying Fingers ... Wyoming's Nick Johnson. A former rock / metal guitarist, Nick tries his hand at fingerstyle, and his latest release (Diversion) is a superb album.

Mike Dawes    Overload    (original)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-zOEjgIsCY

I love watching how Mike's long fingers dance across the strings, and his compositions are typically quite melodic, while also demonstrating his skill as a guitarist. I'd love to hear him banging out some funk music on a 5-string bass guitar someday.

Jimi Hendrix    "Hear My Train Coming / Hound Dog"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P701paKEMXs

Here's a rare find, featuring Jimi on an acoustic, noodling around with a couple of blues standards. He had an incredible touch and piles of emotion in his playing, along with being a really great guitarist. SO relaxed and enjoyable.
