Topic: SO LONG FACEBOOK

i WILL TELL MY CHORDIE FAMILY that those of you I am friends with on FB, you will not be seeing me anymore or for quite some time.  I am deactivating my account.  Of course there is a story behind this but suffice to say, it has caused some issues in my personal life and it needs to go.

THE BRIGHT SIDE I get to keep you guys! I also will still have my sound cloud and you tube channel and my detailing web site.

I hope to see you more often.

That is exactly why I have never gone on FB - I have seen it mess up so many things, end friendships, end employment,  and ruin lives.....

FB is like a guillotine.... if it was used for slicing meat for sandwiches it would be great....

I do not use Facebook either. I know one lady who posts everything including when she will be taking a bubble bath, and when she will be away from home. Well others were reading too. Someone was watching her baths from a window. And while she was away from home she was robbed. Neither was ever caught. So was it Facebook or just being stupid or both, was to blame. Those who live their lives on Facebook just don't have much other things to do in a day. Best lesson, just stay away.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I have a FB account but you won't see anything on my homepage. I stop in there 1-2 times a month and rarely have anything to say. Apparently they got tired of waiting for me to fill out my profile so someone decided to guess where I live and where I went to school. They are about 15 miles off on the school and 100 miles off my home.

I know a couple that have a landscaping business. The wife would post all day, every day. one summer she posted that thry were going to Israel for 3 weeks. What do you think happened? Yep. They were robbed while they were gone.

While I dont post telling life details, Ill just say that it was poor judgement on a occasional bad habit that takes me into places on a chat that  was my downfall.  I just let my fantasy mind get me into trouble and now I need to take a long break from the media.
The good parts of Fb are that I met a lot of very knowledgeable detailers who I have learned a great deal from, reconnected with lots of old friends. and new. 
Glad I still have this.  I was really getting into the Guitar Zoom page and learning there and sharing there. it is a good group of ppl there also.

No FB, no Twitter.  What really bothered me was back when I was looking for a job, several places wanted access to both of those and my Banking information..... and I suppose the name of my Stock Broker, BEFORE they would consider having me in for an interview.  Downright Intrusive in my opinion.  Now if you can just delete the History too !?!  smile

I never joined FB as I've heard so much about abuse and trolling, whatever that is? Bullying and bad language are rife. Before joining Chordie I tried Yahoo Answers. There was so much of all that going on that I never went back there. I got the impression that the members were all 12 year olds making threats and being big knowing you could never find them to introduce them to Mr knuckle!

This is why I love Chordie, most of the forum regulars are people I'd like to meet....one day? There have been one or two cretins....but that's life.

The beauty of discussion forums  (like Chordie) is that the subject matter is something of common interest. I've never had FB or any of the others, because everything is so open-ended, overly-personal, and virtually self-moderated. Lots of terrible things can result from people "baring their soul" in public.

A friend of mine fell into that trap. He took the family on holiday to Spain. His daughter was posting everything on f b. Not only was their house burgled but the burglars even put all the sink plugs in, turned on the taps and flooded the house out. Needless to say his daughter is now banned from using f b.

I've been thinking about ditching FB, but I mainly use it for buy/sell (guitars and effects), and as a place to quickly post photos and keep them relatively organized ... I don't post much else ...

I find I am having a hard time actually going through with it,   though its for same reasons as your NEO, I named my son as a editor for my detail page so it will stay up.  Heck just today I met a 17 yr old kid from Serbia who lives in Germany and has amazing technical skill, but needs to learn to hold back and phrasing, I also met a guy who has a brother who works as a guitar tech for Santana.  Things like that make it really hard to ditch LOL
