Re: friday's blues fix
Smoooooth ... I love the way he palm-mutes his bass notes, so the sustain doesn't drown everything else out. Another winner, Badeye ... thanks!

Just getting caught up with your great Blues Fix, Badeye. The old National lap steel has been a staple of the delta blues for decades, and this guy's playing is really soaked with the soul of the instrument. Another amazing find ... thanks!
"The Mississippi Delta.... is shining like a National guitar....."
Your post to Mr.Badeye made me think of the Paul Simon album, "Graceland", TF. A little allegorical "prank" being played on us by Mr. Simon, I think.
Just "sticking my head in" for a moment to tell y'all we love you, and even though my posting has slowed down, I try to keep up with you as much as I can. Dondra, as you might expect, is still grieving for our son, but sends her love and thanks for your support.

Thanks, Badeye ... I'm honored !!! For all of his quirks and foibles, Dutch could do the blues like few others. We could use a Prime Minister like him right about now.
A sunny Friday,, weekend off... nice eh...

Badeye - That was one of your best finds... must have been the rare sunshine !
Sonny Terry's voice is spectacular - so deep and soothing... the perfect match to the Harp and pitch of Brownie voicing.
Thanks for sharing
Jim
Awesome ... those two are magic together. Another great blues post, Badeye ... and yes, the sunshine is terrific here in our Annapolis Valley these days.

Badeye - you got me going into the blues this morning and I came across the biography of Robert Leroy Johnson - Holy crap - I had never heard of him.......
after reading the story which was incredible - a lot of stuff suddenly made sense... especially the connection to the influence on Eric Clapton. Clapton's album " Crossroads" - aligned with the incredible crossroads story of Johnson's alleged deal with the devil @ the crossroads in a cemetery. - not to mention the death of his first child during the childbirth process - people said it was his payment to the devil in exchange for his musical ability that suddenly came over him.
It is a fascinating story - heck - they don't even know how Johnson died or where he is buried - so many wild stories.
I truly was educated by these reading- one thing linked to another - and suddenly almost two hours had gone by !
Not to mention coming across the 1968 Crossroads album that has John Mayall, Cream ( which Clapton played for), Bluesbreakers, Blind Faith, Delaney and Bonnie, Derek and the Dominos, Duane Allman, and Clapton himself - what a 4 cd set !!! Great, great music!
Thanks for the inspiration this am Badeye !
Jim
Matt Minglewood ... awesome stuff! My favorite Minglewood performance is "Can't You See" from this concert in Badeye's home turf on Cape Breton Island. Really tugs at the heart.
A mid-week blues pick me up for all... turn it up.....

For whatever reason, I had a similar week (I'd like to forget) so plan to spend today with the guitars. This really put a smile on my face this morning ... many thanks!
BAdeye
That might be your best post ever
That was magical - I found myself not wanting that performance to end.
The hand slide just before the 2:20 mark was so cool.
He sure was in a comfort zone playing- feeling the blues!
Thanks so much for sharing

What a voice ... wow! Love her deep, raspy tone ... I almost imagined Little Richard standing there, when I listened with my eyes closed.
That was an incredible musical performance.
What a group of talent. They were so into that second song - it was like the music was just pouring out of their souls.
Thanks for sharing!
Badeye - I don't how you find all these great performances - it certainly is enriching!

Now THIS one has me grinnin'!
I grew up in Bridgetown (down the Valley a ways), and there was bootlegger there who used to buy swish barrels from the old McGuiness Distillery. He'd rinse them with a couple gallons of boiling water to get the booze out of the oak barrels, and sell it to us high school kids for $1 / quart in old milk cartons. We could always depend on swish for a cheap drunk and a 5-alarm hangover.
But like your song says ... "You can't get that stuff no more."
